Setting up a new Apex

Thanks. It was a fun project and I couldn't be happier with the sled. I wasn't quite ready to go 4stroke yet, so I spent the summer working on that. :) One more year. Next sled will be an 06 Apex GT. Yamaha was kind enough to black that one out already.

Guys don't you think we are talking apples and oranges.

I mean the SRX design goal was low slung speed and stability ie fly and rail on corners. I does so BIG TIME, success.

The Apex chasis is for high suspension travel, smoother in the bumps and still fast . I think when I stopped trying to make a rider forward high COG sled feel and ride like the old rail 'king' rider back, low COG ride I was happier. ;)!
I had to learn to use the compression braking to set up the turn rather than bitch about how it screwed up my entrance by Weight shifting off the track on to the ski's causing relative 'LOOSE' feel and abrupt inside ski lift. Now I use gentle throttle release as pre-braking if you will and I love it. It is a different ride but it is GREAT.

I love my GT, given my size and long trail days wish I had the ATTAK but hey I gotta dream about something

My 2 cents

OH yeah I just thought of something. :tg:

I want to ride the SRX in the morning when the trails are smooth and rail my but off. Then on the way home when the trails are moguls I want to ride the APEX home. Maybe we can partner up, I ride the SRX or VIper in the AM and you ride the APEX then we will switch for the afternoon ride home ;)!

Sold my other 02 Viper last year. Pulled her out of the garage and went for a little spin. I just LOVE the sound of that triple, but I HATE the rough ride. I can ride all day on my Attak, whether trail or off-trail, and am NEVER as sore as I was riding my Viper. And yes, with 5 Proaction sleds in the fleet, I DO know how to set them up. My 02 ER Viper was 136'd with Ohlins, Boss, bar rise, C&A, etc.. Miss the sound.... and that's it! I am just as fast trail riding my Attak as was on the Viper. Not saying Mighty or anyone else is wrong, just that I am a diehard 4-stroker... no pun intended LOL!!

I have to agree with viper dave. get used to it and never look back one thing not mentioned... watch for the "jake break" itll get ya a few times but it is one of the ADVANTAGES when used to it just watch when standing up enjoy!

IMO, the only think the SRX has is that it rails in the corners, but you can get an Apex pretty close with a 13mm sway bar and the shocks and suspension adjusted. The Apex motor blows the Tripple away. As far as I'm concerned you cannot compare the two, because the Apex is just that far ahead. The Rider forward is just different and you need to learn how to drive it. Once you master that there is no looking back except to see where your buddies are.

I do miss the sound of my triple piped Viper. However once I set-up my Apex properly and learned how to ride it, I would never want to go back!

I do miss my sxr, I had it all built up and it would run, let me tell you. I haven't even thought about wishing I had it back and my Attak gone. NO WAY.

The 4 strokes are so much more torquey. Coming out of the curves, you only need a little throttle as compared to pushing the flipper to the bar with the 2 strokes. Torque is always there. Especially with a boosted sled.

Come on up sometime, we'll ride. I'm only 45 minutes from Rockford, IL.

1CS - I never noticed you were from Ft. Atkinson. Let me guess - You get your parts from Blunder??? :)

I appreciate the feedback. This is apples and oranges, but that is the choice when moving on from the SRX. It seems that most are very happy with the move while a couple are wishing they had their old sled back. I have always loved the SRX motor, so to think the 4stroke is even better should make for an exciting winter.
