Wayne,
It's not my sled, but I'll ask my father to report his findings back to me.
One thing you may want to look at is the position of your shock. Where the shock bolts on at the front, there are 3 grooves that the bolt can lock the shock in. If it's in the top one, that means your spring is set to hard.
It may be a case of shock valving.
I'll get his impressions after his next ride.

You could get a shock from an older venture? if they are rebuildable? Or a Öhlins for the venture should fit perfektly.. The VK pro shocks are WAY to soft imo.. It bottoms all the time when riding by my self.. With 2 riders there is a maxlimit of like 30km/h before things get nasty on the trails... A friend of mine has broken his skid twise on his VK pro. One time he did it efter installing a Öhlins shock in the back. In his oppinion the Öhlins shock was great but still to soft...
Remember to put the shock in the lowest hole in the front mount. That is the stiffest possition...

My old man took the sled on a small ride last night (20kms). He had a passenger and said the ride was great. No bottoming.
He also took it for a small ride alone and said the ride was still plush, didn't seem too stiff. I can't comment on the conditions because I wasn't there.
I think he's happy with the shock, and I'm happy that it worked out as I generally take the blame when things don't work out LOL.
For those of you interested in a rebuildable alternative to your OEM VK shock, the Viper shock works well. It also gives you the ability to adjust your spring in small increments using the threaded style adjuster.
