Hey Guys, I got a 2014 Viper LTX SE. Looking to swap shocks for a standard LTX. I am not a ditch jumper, or mogul masher. Just want a nice ride and the stock set up is to stiff for me.
That or has anyone with the same sled, do the hygear coil springs and shock set ups? whats your opinion of that set up..
Thanks!!

I put a new set of coil over shocks on my ltx se. They were taken off a brand new sled and I bought them from the guy. Haven't ridden yet with them on but have driven a standard ltx and they ride so much more plush than our se vipers. Go with coil over front shocks and revalve the rear shocks and it'll ride like a Cadillac.

Boy I hope you guys are right on!
I decided to go with the LTX DX Rather than the XTX or STX DX for just that hope of coupled smooth ride.

Is the ltx dx the same as the 2014 standard ltx as far as shock package? If so you're in for a treat. The one I drove was by the the best handling most plush riding sled I've ever ridden and that's comparing to a lot of great new sleds!

I believe they are the same, after your experience I am hoping they are!!!!!
That is exactly what I want, plush and handle, does not need to be at sno cross pace just aggressive trail and cruising trail speeds.
Thanks

I have the LTX. The shocks/spring combination work great.
Takes the big bumps great and still has a nice ride.
However. I did notice near the end of the season, 2800 miles later. The shocks seemed a bit on the soft side.
I plan on rebuilding them this fall with with Amsoil medium weight shock oil. Give them a bit more firmness.

Have the LTX SE and had Hygear revalve the two rear shocks and replaced the spring with their dual rate springs which made the ride better, they also have found that the torsion springs are too stiff and they have a replacement for them too, so I would go that route if you want to keep the cost down to the $500 range for a better ride

I sent my two rear shocks to monster performance. $180 ish dollars to revalve both shocks plus i have the softer torsion springs. The rear shocks can be setup slightly different if you keep the stock torsions so you get close to the same results. Softer torsions are a good investment tho

Boy I debated over and over again wether to go simple old Coil over or Fox, ltx DX or LTX SE, STX/XTX but since I seem to be getting older I thought the smooth simple, novel heated seat and taller windy would be more appreciated than the not bottoming on a jump bigger than I should do anyway!
Now I find myself still thinking it ovcer and over. Why do I think just cause I am getting older...................
I hope you guys get your XTX Plush and smooth so we ALL win and I remain confused.

A big key to a smooth ride with this chassis is coil front shocks. Again I'm talking plush..nothing to do with adjustability..if you go back and watch/read reviews of the procross cats when they first came out in 2012 the riders say they far prefer the sleds with the coil over front shocks compared to those with floats. I hafta say I agree with them 100%. It really doesn't matter how well your rear suspension is setup..if you enter bumps and the front isn't working properly it is going to throw off the entire sled

I ride mountains, plenty of big whoops, hits, and the occasional unexpected jumping. I really like the floats for that but once again I ride very little groomed roads.

Stingray I ride the opposite, will go 200+ miles a day often on smooth trails if mid week or early on week end, I want smooth and total control to rail corners and fly some drops with almost always a downhill smooth landing.
So I am happy with my choice.

LTX the way to go unless you are only riding the trails to get off in the deep!! I spent all last season chasing a rear set up that would trail and now ordered the hygear coupler and Axis shock. The 141" does not have any more paddles on the ground than the LTX due to the 3.0 pitch vs the 2.86 of the LTX. So a 1.6 Track on the LTX gives you basically the same sled but with a coupled rear end.
You say it made the ride better..... I test rode the standard LTX and thought it was perfect, I like to ride at a good pace, but I am a sit down rider that likes smooth trails and lakes with lots of HP. (my viper will be turbo this winter).
I was thinking about the lighter torsions and revalving with either hygear or Monster...Both shops are great to work with..But was testing to see if anyone just swapped out shocks or is willing to upgrade there standard LTX to the SE????
