This is exactly why I didn't want a side cat or zr winder. I still want the made in Japan sled.I was told by dealer that the sidewinder is an Arctic Cat. The Apex is still a pure "Real" Yamaha machine.

That's right, this is not new news, that is what we are talking about. The Apex is not new. We are trying to determine if there will ever be a new Japanese Yamaha sled. We have seen no proof or teasers of that development. In fact, the models, year over year have been new graphics other than the skid change last year.
With the success of the Sidewinder, they have no incentive to produce one either. I read on HCS in the AC Turbo forum that guys are noticing enough room to get their fist under the engine in the 9000 series/Sidewinder! I think that is good news for us guys waiting on EPS, as I would bet that may be a good location for it. That may get me to look at a spring order.

I've taken my first ride on the 16 apex. I find the ride just about like a rx1. I put 185 lbs in the rear shock. I hope playing with the pressure will help.

I was in the same boat as you.
Shopped around for the cleanest low mile used XTX Apex I could find. I avoided several deals on 2016 new non currents as I am not confident in the Slingshot skid...and def wont run an air shock..expecially a single shock on a sled.
I bought a 2014 Apex XTX with way low mileage and gentle use bone stock for $8900 CDN...which is a great price in this country and area IMO.
Ripped the skid out as soon as it got home and installed the Star kit with both shocks revalved by Star and a stiffer centre spring.
Added extra full size idler wheels and new white oem slides.
I never rod ethe sled stock...but did enough research/reading/solicited feedback to know the stock XTX skid needed help....to say the least.
Have had it out briefly on some high speed rail line runs and thru some early season crappy trails.
This thing rides awesome! Transfer well but controlled, very plush, minimal sag when sitting still, and I have the springs set on low. VERY impressed.
And the sled handles great too...
The 144 totally suits this chassis, the sled handles as good as any shorty Apex I've ridden.
I put Curve XS skis on it as well as I had them from my Nytro....they work awesome on the Apex and totally suit this sled.
Needless to say I would advise going with a 2015 XTX all day long especially if it has a Star kit already installed

Very true my dealer actually told me to stay away from it. Only good about it they said was yamaha powered and clutches the rest was Artic Cat designed and made. They told me the fit and finish was terrible compared to a Apex. sloppy fit and jobI was told by dealer that the sidewinder is an Arctic Cat. The Apex is still a pure "Real" Yamaha machine.

I have the 2015 Apex XTX coming from a 2006 Apex GT.Very true my dealer actually told me to stay away from it. Only good about it they said was yamaha powered and clutches the rest was Artic Cat designed and made. They told me the fit and finish was terrible compared to a Apex. sloppy fit and job
Loved the GT ! The XTX times 10 !!!
I am not sure what new features are the best upgrade from the GT.
1. 144 tipped up rails with the Star kit .
2. Power steering
3. WRP seat
4. Snotrackers on any skis
and .....

Good looking Apex. I have had a Rotopax there for 3 years on my 07 Attak (I know the ex outlets are different). You even have room to move the mount a little farther back.
I have a SideWinder in my garage. The fit and finish are very good actually. We will see how she holds up. And I don't have to worry about burning my luggage or combusting my spare gas. There was no shortage of small issues with my 06 Apex GT.
