Last season when I got home from last ride I found that I had placed a few holes in the front exchanger. Last week I started to look over the situation more closely and found that the holes where most likely caused by a ripped track.

So to repair my current ride I will need to fix the exchanger, replace the track and install a new suspension (not required but it is the only thing I really hate about the sled, actually the replacement of the hyfaxes every 3000 miles is the part that really gets to me).

So I am looking for a few things one: buy a new sled (would go back to skidoo except I can't find a 136 one up with a 4 stroke) so that leaves the apex ltx or two: install a new track (probably the prestuded one) with the zx2 suspension.

To now to the real questions, does anyone have a reasonable amount of ride time on the zx2 and the monoshock; my average trip length per day is about 360 miles on various trails. And my second question is what can I expect for hyfax wear on a new one and a zx2; I know I am be picky but I have over 9000 miles on the original set of hyfax on my mxz and have never replaced them, seems kind of crazy that I need to do this at the beginning and middle of the season.

Thanks for the feedback.

I can't help you much with ZX2 experience since I don't have one. But I just can't get past your hang up with the hyfax changes. 3000 miles compared to 9000 might be a lot, but to let changing the hyfax be one of the deciding factors of whether or not your going to get a different sled is kind of humorous.

Hyfax are cheap and can be changed in about 30 minutes (includes loosening and retightening the track).

JMO,

Jon

Zx2 is AMAZING if I had on in my Attak I would have never sold it....buy the Zx2...maybe a 128" or 136"

In one season on my Vector with the ZX2 , I believe I put over 4700km on it, and the sliders were in still great shape. I've had bad experiences with Yammy suspension slider wear, until you add more wheels.

Actually my hangup is this, Fall and Spring are for maintenance and winter is for riding, switch them out every 8 or 9 trips out just frankly pisses me off. Until I find a good solution I can either use a wrench on the motor of the skidoo or use one lying on the ground in the suspension of the yamaha. The other issue is I actually like the riding position on my warrior more than the rider forward on the newer styles so it is looking more like suspension change.

I just can't seem to find the right combination, the zx2 may be the answer but it is kind of an expensive gamble.

Thanks
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy!

I built a project Rx-1 Warrior like yours.
Used a Ski-doo SC-10 III skid, worked VERY well!
Cost was about $400.
Much less than a Zx2.
The hyfax lasted the entire season, no problem.
(And I will ride even if it is VERY marginal conditions.)

Here is the link, has great details on how to do the swap:

Have a friend with a SC-10 III available right now, if you are interested.
Read the thread & see what you think.

Prior to changing out the suspension, I re-located the front idlers, that made a SERIOUS improvement to the life of the hyfax also.
That mod cost about $4 and worked awesome!

There is a how to link on here somewhere, can't seem to find it.
Know it is in the TECH Section.

Hope this helps!

I actually don't see how so many of you go through Hyfax so fast. I am on my second set which i installed 3 seasons ago and almost 4,000 miles ago and have hardly any wear at all to them. I do have the Pioneer marginal snow wheel kit and run my track very loose but these slides should last me another couple thousand miles at least. I do ride mostly off trail in the deep stuff but have to get to the off trail stuff in some very bad conditions every spring also. I will say my first set went pretty fast but the dealer had the track pretty tight and that was before the wheel kit. I adjust my track so loose it ratchets then cinch it up a little at a time until it doesn't and I have never had any problems with it ratcheting under full power this way. I also run my limiter strap one hole tighter to help reduce the wear at the front of the rails. Maybe I'm just lucky as I haven't had any problems with track clips either and I am just going to replace my idlers this season just because some are not spinning so well anymore but none have seized up yet or delaminated. maybe the marginal snow wheel kit would be beneficial for you also.

You guys got to be kidding me! About the mileage on your slides, I ride about 2000 miles a year and go through 2 sets. 25% of my riding is in marginal snow. I'd love to get 3000 miles out of a set of slides.

Thanks for the info. Is the skid a 120 or 136? It may an interesting project but I am fearful if I start something that involved I maybe giving up some riding time as most of my time is now rolled into work and my business.

I have tried dealing with track tension over the last few years and here is what I find, the looser the track I run the faster it seems to burn through them right under the rubber stoppers, about a half a inch more then factory specs seem to produce the best wear of this sled.

Like I have said this is the only issue that I have with the sled and after three years of dealing with it, it is time to remove the problem or fix the problem. Again thanks for the info on the scIII as I have ridden on this skid and did find it much better, the only downside I have with this is the fabrication and time but may be able to fit it in if I can find a 136.

Thanks

I'm in the process of doing the same thing to my sled I'm putting a sc3 in my sled i have measurements from a sled at my dealer that has a sc3 in it as well. The hardest thing is getting the measurements.

I love my ZX2 but I am in the process of fixing the 900 mile slide wear I now have with it. Added an idler axle between the Back axle and the last idler on the 136 skid.

Mounted in the stock extension bolt holes. Seem to be working fine for me. However no one else seems to have this problem. I think I'm just to fat and the sliders heat up from to much beer gut aboard. LOL If I get 3,000 miles out of them now I'll be more then happy. My Pantera had 5,000 miles when I changed them. They did not need to be changed I just changed them because. I see now reason the ZX2 will not give me the same service life with my little mod.

Anyway I added a Apex seat and 2 inch risers for the bars. Combination works great except I miss the width of the stock seat. My fat arse hangs off each side to much for my liking on the Apex seat. Why do they build everything for the little people of the world?

Love my sled to much to trade up! Install the ZX2 and you will be very happy with it. I killed myself for way to many miles with the Pro action skid, best thing I did for my back was the ZX2.

I have whittled down a set of new sliders on a nytro to the wear lines in 10 miles. And ya..i know what i am doing!!!

10 miles? It took me 50.

The scratcher on one side came loose and wasn't kicking up snow, that side melted down to nearly nothing, the other side was brand new.

Thanks for the feedback, it has been invaluable and I think I have finally come to a decision. I am going to replace the track and fix the exchanger then probably pony up for the 137" sc-5.

Thanks

2000 miles on my slides and still look like new. Had the whole suspension out this summer and didn't even change 'em. And ya, I know what I'm doing too...
