For some reason I think it would be interesting to hear how some of you guys break in your sleds. Personally I’m following the given break in period “rules”. But I know lots of people like running them hard for the first while. Anyone give any reasoning behind there way of breaking in their sled?

Well i can say for sure... taking it easy for the first roughly 60-100km riding it like normal. Then a little faster than normal with a few good hard pulls,( not more than a three count) at full throttle makes a fast sled with no issues. Seen it for my self. I know of a few sleds broken in like this and there fast ones. Fluke ? I don't know for sure but I will be breaking in my next sled this way.

Take it easy for first warm up cycle make sure no leaks then grip n rip

Yea, I’m young and just feel like I should follow the recommendations. I don’t want to have a sled that’s causing me problems when they are near 20000$ to begin with

That makes sense to me. There is a lot of knowledge around here and a lot of opinion but in the end only you can decide what feels right for you. There are a lot of moving parts on these sleds and they all benefit from some break in. Not to mention you are riding the most powerful production sled ever and you might do well to take it easy for a bit at the start.

Congratulations on the new sled, treat it right and it will treat you well.

First time I rode mine I took it east across the yard letting it get up to operating temp and then once I hit the field it was WFO for a second and then completely let off and coast to a stop, turn around and do the same thing, basically get moving a decent clip then a full throttle pull let off completely and coast to a stop. Did this about three times and then rode around like normal for 10 minutes and then shut sled off and let it cool down. Once cooled did a couple more WOT pulls and then just rode normal. Did this because I wanted to make sure I properly seated the rings. 3000KM on the sled now and no issues. Everyone will have there own way of breaking them in so do whatever you feel is right, did my viper and nytro the exact way and had over 10,000km trouble free. Also baked my belt in the oven for a bit and then let it fully cool to avoid the break in period of the belt since I was doing WOT pulls on a brand new belt, ran the same belt for 3000km with zero issues.

This is very similar to what i'm going to do and I may be even a little more aggressive
I Broke my 2011 Apex in using 3 heat soaks and then by the book. It was fast and had no trouble with stock & mostly stock 800's.
My wife's 2013 Apex i bought as a Demo from Yamaha so pretty sure it was broken in hard. It is 3 sleds quicker in 660 than the 2011 and 3 mph faster in 1/4 mile than the 2011.
Yamaha calls for some full throttle for short periods early. My Hemi Jeep calls for the same. Dodge breaks Hellcat engines in on a Dyno for 45 minutes at their engine plant in Mexico.
Tell me about this oven belt procedure. New one on me but sounds intriguing.

Bake your belt. This is gonna get good.
