Well I love my Simmons Gen 1's So, I wanted to get the Gen 3s but figured I was not ready to replace my practically new skis with new ones. So this is what I did. Got a set of Gen 3's from a member on another site used ($200) and went to work with the table saw. Here are some pictures of what I did.
I ride mostly off trail, so I figured the extra floatation could not hurt.
Going out this weekend to try them out.

Wish I would have known about that before you chopped them up. I would have given you 225 and you could have thrown the money out the car window. I would have had the gen threes on my machine and we both would have been happy. Just joking around. Let us know.

How about a pic from the bottom?
did you cut all of the outter lip off?
I take thats the outside lip?
I have been thinking about doing the same thing to a pair of GEN IIs I just bought, but I think I am going to ride them first on a mid March trip to the Snowies. Are you going to run the cut edge to the outside? seems like alot of guys on sno west are doing ski mods, The angle cut on the rear, they are doing to help sidehilling etc (from pivot bolt back-carl cut)

Yes the complete outer lip is cut off. I'm hoping the extra inside lip will help with keeping the front end up. Probably going with a Roest skid plate over the summer. The Skins one iced up real bad this year. Broke off some of the screw heads and nearly came off. I like the added float the skins float plate gave but the ice build up was just not good. Yea I also did allot of reading about cutting the skis, not one post was a negative. Now I don't ride the mountains but I do spend most of my time off trail, so the extra width was not going to work.
