Going through my sled the other day pre ride, and i see the back 2 5inch idlers are toast. The front 2 inside ones getting rough. The sled only has 1700 miles on it, so WTF? I replaced the 2 rears and went for a 30 mile ride and 1 of the new ones is missing a chunk already. The trail as pretty crusty/icy, but 30 miles!!! Has anyone else run into this? Im thinking its ice chunks tearing them up. Why in the hell did they switch to soft rubber wheels? Im thinking about trying to adapt older style plastic wheels in there. Any thoughts or advice?

Are you running any studs? Sometimes when the stud is not fully seated, the raised lip of the stud bottom can chew up idler wheels real fast. I switched to the slightly larger Kimpex wheels along with Duponts and now have over 2600 miles on my 18 XTX and have not experienced the wear you are reporting.

I do have studs, but they all look and feel seated good. I ordered the kimpex wheels and Duponts yesterday. Hopefully that does the trick. Thanks

I run the over-sized Kimpex wheels on my 08 Apex LTX and considering the success I had with reducing hyfax wear on it, I just figured I would do the same with my 18 Apex XTX as well as opt for the Duponts. Although the ones I use on the 08 are not actually the same part number as the ones I run on the 18, the concept was the same. Of course, that was after I read how the newer Apex's mount the idler wheels a little lower where the over-sized wheel is not needed but I opted to keep the larger Kimpex wheels on. Hopefully, with the larger wheels and lower mounting points and the Dupont slides, my hyfax wear will be very minimal and can extend the life of the Duponts.

Thanks Rob. That makes alot of sense. I did not know the mounting block were a bit lower, thats good. I went through and retourqed all my studs, replaced a few bent ones. Hopefully that does the trick.
