TY 4 Stroke Master
I've said it before, I've owned and loved yammies since 1966.. Bikes and sleds.. But doo has gained market share because they listen to riders.. They offer light weight 2-strokers and 4-strokers now because yammie proved to the world they last... Give the people what they "WANT" Yamaha is going to loose "ME" soon if they can't give me a doo 900 ace type sled.. I don't need the HP.. I love the way a doo fits me.. Oh well, I sure hope they make my Ideal sled someday. MM.greenthumb said:I jumped ship this year and bought a '14 Summit XM 163".
I have no brand loyalty and made my purchase based on demos of all brands several months of research.
2700 mountain kilometres on it so far, and while it has not been problem free, I am quite impressed.
The 2013-14 etecs are proving to be very reliable and durable. They are a completely different experience than older 2-strokes, and even other current 2s'.
Build quality, I feel, is significantly better than poo and cat. The refinements and details pertaining to a mountain specific sled are hard to ignore. The whole package simply works, and very well.
Keep in mind my observations and experiences only apply to the mountain segment. I think if I was a trail rider, I would most likely be on a Yam 4s.
Not trying to cause a ruckus here, just that they are not the smokey 'ticking-time-bombs' of yesteryear.

I am in the same camp. I own a lot of yamaha's - outboards, atv's and sleds. I put a lot of miles on my '06 apex - with some minor issues - donuts, cracked pipes, battery issue that came up by surprise and left me stranded 1/2 mile from my house so no prob, and jack bearing. Otherwise was a very, very good sled. However, I needed a better riding sled to absorb big bumps as I have a bad back. I was between the Renegade and the Nytro XTX. I found a good price on a '12 XTX and so far I am happy with it. I am also looking for a sled for my wife. She does not like the "heaviness" feel of my nytro, but likes my brothers MXZ 600. It is an easy to drive machine that does not need a lot of rider input to go around a corner well. While I love the though of the long lasting 4 strokes, I realize my wife will put on about 1/3 the miles I do and a high mileage motor is not really needed. While it is just my opinion, I do believe Ski Doo listens to their customers a lot more than Yamaha. Proof is always in the pudding, and maybe the sled market for Yami is just not big enough to make all the changes necessary. I am not biased enough in anything to make one brand always get my money when it could be spent more wisely somewhere else. I drove GM trucks for years, but gave Ford a shot with my last purchase. Jury is still out on that one as well. No different with toys.

Sled could have 50 hp or 500 hp, it only goes as fast as you tell it to go dude. Ski-doo 900 ACE makes 90 hp, new viper makes 130. Vectors were what, 120 hp? Don't not buy a sled because you think it has too much power, buy the sled that you like. You don't have to hold it to the bar all the time.
