Ski Shiiming Results on Attak / Apex?

Has anyone tried shimming the stock skis? If so, any clear positive & negative results? Just curious, thanks.

I have an 06 Attak - I shimmed mine and do not have any darting. Stock skis with 8 inch carbides and 162 studs.

I got the Bergstrom shim/triple point carbide setup with ski savers from Scott Bergstrom. Great setup. Carves real well and no darting. 1400 miles and minimal wear on the rods.

I ran Scott's kit with single carbide 6". No darting, just don't care for the skis. Going to Slydog with Scott's kit and 4" triple carbide. I run non studded. Will try without shimming. Some say too much up-tilt and shim the front to bring tips down.

8" plastic that fits between the ski and the skeg. I noticed that though they did help in reducing the scrapes and dings on the very underside of the ski , they also made my higher speeds suffer, so i took them off. they are made out of the same material as the shims and bring the carbides down into the snow more,thus creating more contact. Doug

nate007. You're not missing anything. The steel plate that holds the dual wear bars is the same width as a plastic ski saver. Both protect the bottom keel of the stock ski where it would contact the ground if a wear bar wasn't present.

I find that the ski savers cause the front to bite harder in turns, which stands to reason. As stated above the wearbar/carbide is setting deeper in the snow. Also as stated above, this can create a little more drag on top end. Most of my ski wear comes from having to side hill with one ski down on the pavement having to make crossings where streets are clean.

Guys shim them under the dpindle directely into the rubber that fits into the saddle,just get a 2" square piece of plastic or rubber and do it like we used to for stock skis,it works good and will not hurt top end,i had the ski savers on my x2 usi skis and they still darted.

I'm not sure I like the way the Dooley's "hang" way below the skis anyway. They do seem to slow it down, and they have been a huge fuel range killer. I hear alot of good about Bergstroms tripple points, I may try something different next year.
If I could find a way to retro fit my Yamaha billet handles to a pair of Pilots......now we're talking!
