I just bought a new OEM Yamaha skid plate and am having trouble with the mounting tool. I drilled out the rivit and put the threaded piece and mounting tool in the hole. When I held the tool with a wrench and used a rachet to tighten the bolt to set the threads, I can't seem to be able to back the bolt out or in and I can see the threaded mounting rivit is spinning. What can I do? Is there a better way to make it work for the other three holes and can I over tighten the threads? Right now the tool and the bolt are stuck in the hole.

Try another insert. One may be FUBAR.
You can also try putting a little anti-sieze (or any type of lubricant) on the threads to keep them from galling up and spinning the insert.

insert
I would like to try a new insert but the tool and insert are stuck on the sled right now and the insert is spinning so I can not tighten or loosen it.

Take the oil drain access panel off and see if you can hold the insert with pliers.
