want to put a skid plate on the x t x ,anybody using skinz floatplate?how do you like it?Plates are $$ would like some imput.befroe I buy one.

They hold lots of snow...I don't personally like skid plates....more of a hastle than anything IMO

I have to agree with Daranello, that's why I haven't put one on yet. I like the piece of mind that the added protection might bring but have dealt with ice & snow building up on my older sleds & pulling the rivets out of the plate.

I had the Yamaha Float plate on mine and didn't like the ice and snow build up so i took it off. I'm now thinking of adding the basic skid protection plate from Yamaha as I like the added protection and that belly plate seems a bit fflimsy and easy to come off.

Anybody have the regular skid plate on their Nytro? Thoughts? Pics?

I had the regular skid plate on my Apex and its so anoning..the ice is constantly pushing out the rivnuts...not only that its holds water and ice..not good

I have the Yamaha skid plate on mine and it does hold snow in the little open area behind the bumper. No big deal for the protection it gives to the oil filter.

You could try the ultraplate, fits great and looks good.
I drilled six 1/4" holes in mine at the lowest points facing backward at a 45 degree angle for drainage.
No popping yet, but a couple good scratches in it.
Well worth the investment I think, when you think what could happen with out it.

I have the float plate on my xtx from skins and I like it alot but I did modify it a little to make it work better. The brackets they give you will last about 5 minutes so don't even think about those. I cut some holes in the middle area for drainage but I think i would not have needed too. I used stainless steel u bolts and bolted the plate on to the front bumper and to the frame tubing half way down. I also removed the cheap hardware for bolting to the belly pan and replaced it with stainless steel. With the u bolts I ground down the ends that stick out of the plate so that they look good and will not catch anything as I run it over. My plate is seriously up tight against the sled so no ice or snow can develop in those areas. I do have a small problem with ice building up and rubbing on the rubber boot on both sides of suspension. I have not come up with anything for a fix since I just have been having that problem lately. No big deal just takes some thought and skill and it will be fixed too.

The plate does make a huge difference in deep snow though. I now stays up on the snow and does not sink in deep like before it was put on. makes deep snow riding easier and getting stuck harder. I would not want anything else due to the floatation and protection this thing gives. If you want I can email you some pics, just pm me and give me you email address.
