Skid Plates - I put hole in my engine... Need help. 07 Attak

Yep, that photo is without the black acccess panel. The dealer took the photo for me.

That means for the pan to have that damage, I assume the access panel was pretty banged up, huh?

Does the skid plate (isn't it plastic?) protect that much ?

Joel,

Did you take your sled to your local dealer........"H's"? I had the worst experience with them recently and will never spend a penny there again. I'd hang 'em out to dry here, but don't feel like wasting my precious finger muscles.

Jon

I took the sled back to the dealer where I bought it in Jefferson, WI. I figured that since I have to drive all the way back up there to pick it up, that I'd keep on driving and get to ride it too. they're pretty darned good so far.

PM me with what went on Jon,
joel

It should shut down the sled if u have no oilpressure just like when u leave it run and it gets to hot and shuts off.If its not suppose to it would have seized and if it did oh boy that would be just plain wrong ouch

EDIT - apparently there is an oil pressure sensor on the EFI models...

There is no oil pressure sensor, just the oil level sensor and indicator on the dash.

When the system senses low oil it turns the on the low oil light. It does not shut the engine down.

To the best of my knowledge there is nothing that will shut the engine down if it runs out of oil.

Is it hard to install ????

I thought it was, the skidplate fought me every step of the way.

Sled wasnt high enough off the ground for me to drill holes, to then had to somehow lift it to fit the drill, and that took for ever.

Then I broke the stupid tool that came with the kit as it had a casting defect in the shank of the bolt. I wasnt tightening on an angle or even tightening hard, so I had to use a different bolt.

Then none of the holes that were lined up in the skidplate matched my sled so had to elongate a few with my dremel, and reposition a removeable nut clip so that the bolt would catch, which required taking the sled nose cone off and top shroud.

Preety much saying, the skidplate was made liek crap and the event wasnt a good one. But now that its on, the sled has the protection it requires.

Ill try and post a pic when I get one.

i put on a skid plate and the a-arm protectors right away..Glad i did ,as i smoked a buried rock one day that bounced me really hard..Smashed my buddys polaris that was right behind me.He doesnt have a pan protector and now has a concave pan.

1st;

Let me say this is my Very 1st Post :-o

I feel for you on that one, as hubby wacked the Warrior a couple years back at a VERY LOW speed and had some major damage. We were down for a couple of weekends .........NO RIDING :o|

My Bud puts that stuff on everything now, they are alot cheaper and easier to do now than after the fact............ Looks Good Too.

there is an oil pressure sensor that will kill the engine if there is no oil pressure {ck ecm for a code 30 i think}
there is a level sensor in the dipstick that will illuminate a warning lite but will not kill the engine

Interesting. I was always told there was no oil pressure sensor.

Where is the sensor located? Is it just the Apex that has it or did the RX-1 have it also?

Guys i know i read it sopmewhere but cant remenber where and i may be wrong But i dont think so I think u will find it has a switch to shut down the fuel or spark I will get more and info and post unless someone else post 1st :Rockon:

Just FYI
My dealer said that he was told at the seminars all the fuel injected models have oil pressure switches that, after a time delay, will shut the engine off in the event that the unit rolls over as a saftey precaution. Carbureted models don't need this feature because they won't run when upside down anyway. I just happens to be a nice feature that prevents engine damage in the unfortunate event that a hole is punched into oil pan. He also said the only purpose the "legs" on the oil pan serve is to hold the engine steady on the bench when the engine is out of the chassis. He said you could cut them off but it would be smarter to intall the skip plate because it prevents bulkhead damage from rocks or stumps as well as protecting the engine.
