Just got 2 skinz float plates one for the phazer and the other for my nytro. They state cutting a large egg shapped hole in the plate to allow ice etc, does this really need to be done? seems to me that this would affect the performance of the plate? why not just remove the engine cover gaurd completely and just use the float plate? :o|

In deep wet snow it can act like a shovel. It never really bothered me, but I think I'm gonna drill out some 1 1/2 holes in it for run off this year and see if that'll help, cause a little weight loss never hurts. Should still preserve the integrity of the float. Do a search on Skinz, I have a good thread on how to fix the breaking front clamps too.

Personally I consider this float plate silly, having to remove such a large area to prevent water/ice buildup? What about protection to the bulkhead and engine cover?

If the problem is water melting, then a series of smaller holes should suffice, no?

Why not design the float plate properly to begin with? Perhaps a series of lateral cuts like the gills of a shark or something similar.
