Float Plate and Cutting the Hole

I have the Skinz float plate but have not put it on. It has a template to cut a hole to let out snow and ice build up. If it lets the build up out why won't it let it in? Has anyone installed the float plate and cut the hole and then ridden in the deep snow. It just seems logical if build up can get out then snow will get pushed in their while riding in the powder. Any thoughts or experiences will be appreciated. Thanks
