Why would you guys want to increase the amount of ice buildup with having the whole exhaust exposed to the track dust. Man, Yamaha's are heavy enough. Personally, with example to the phazer, having the exhaust on top of the tunnel has completely eliminated ice buildup. Completely. Just sayin'.

well seeing how you asked,,, my old yammi mtn max with a stinger was ear peircing,, my stock nytro is so quite i love it,, no ear plugs, nobdy complains when your hot doggin around... by going under tunnel i wont need ear plugs as bad(buddy has a hindle on his and its annoying how load it is...
im not to concerned about ice build up and weight,, couple nice jumps take care of that.. and as far as im concerned the stock exhaust is completly exposed to snow from the tunnel. the only difference would be the actual exhaust that would be let out under the tunnell.. stock muffler builds ice on top of tunnel extensiion.
also the tank on a nytro is tiny ive been moutning jerry cans to my running boards but i need to get more fuel up to the alpine,, 5 gallons and some beer on the back would be ideal..
i ride an mtx, and find that ice build up is only bad in certain low snow dust type snow on deep powdery days i have minimal ice build up....

i want the exhaust for storage. there is absolutly no storage on the nytro and this is almost the only option, unless u want to carry around saddlebags alll day

I guess for groomed trails it makes sense. I can't afford to have ice buildup where I ride. I'm trying to read as much about the Nytro before I make the leap to a larger sled.

Strange, from everything I've read the undertunnel exhaust reduces ice build up, and not on groomed trails, but in deep snow. With the amount of snow flying around when playing in powder, it seems obvious that having the exhaust on top of the tunnel, even with the tunnel closed off, is not going to eliminate ice buildup.
As for not being able to afford to have ice build up where you ride, take my word that ice build up under the tunnel is not nearly as big an issue with the warm temperatures in Nfld, but ice, slush and snow build up on top of the tunnel is.
Right now I just have the exhaust turn-out, and that's cut down on the build up quite a bit, but I'm still anxious to try an undertunnel conversion to see if it would help even more. Even if it doesn't help, as other people have said, the increased storage would make it worth it.

exactly, a few good jumps will get the ice out of the tunnel, but right now whenever i stop i have to chip away at my tail light, and my running boards. and i only ride grommed trails and ditchbang

Say what you want. I ride with with a couple of Nytros and they both carry rubber mallets to knock the ice out of, -and off of the tunnel...one of those was the former manager of the local dealer. So if blocking off the tunnel on the phazer eliminates ice buildup - and it does- how can the opposite be true on a Nytro? I'm not trying to stir the pot here but it just doesn't make sense. When the 07 Phazers came out the exhaust was exposed in two places - at the header and at the muffler. The ice buildup was so bad it was ripping lugs off the track. It was loud from the rubbing and the sled gained 50 lbs. The whole rear-exit design is a bad one anyway. Engine exhaust should be exited up front where the entire exhaust can be protected from the snow by the cowling. But what are you gonna do? One of the trade-offs for fit and finish I guess.

I have 60-70% less ice build up then the stock exhaust, who told undertunnels create more??

Did they have under-tunnel exhaust?

The phazer and the nytro are completely different sleds. The phazer header exits out above the tunnel and continues along as such. the nytro header exits into the tunnel and then make it way up above the tunnel to exit the rear. So when the phazer is blocked off, the exhaust issue is completely eliminated, the nytro; if blocked off with the exhaust left stock; still leaves the header under the tunnel exposed. So that being said; the muffler into the tunnel was not to design a system to eliminate ice, but to free up rear tunnel space for luggage, gas cans as well.Ruckus said:Say what you want. Guys I'm not trying to pick a fight here all I'm saying is exhaust + snow = ice. I can understand wanting storage and reducing ice as a bonus of having an under tunnel exhaust. I would personally prefer to have the exhaust completely eliminated from the underside of the tunnel at the sacrifice of storage space. I realize that the Nytro's header is below the tunnel to begin with so there will always be somewhat of an icing issue so perhaps having the entire exhaust under it helps to melt it all away?
