I was looking at the results and you can see how guys like Robbie and Iain who raced the Nytro and struggled to even make it to the final are now back in the final and winning. I think the only way for the Nytro to have been competitive in sno-x was to build a 4-stroke twin using dirt bike/F1 technology. The engine would be much lighter than the current 3-cylinder, street bike technology based motor. The bad thing is the twin would have to rev super high and probably could not be made to work without a clutch gear reduction. Clutch gear reduction is banned in the 600 class per ISR rules.
The other thing, I doubt many of us would even want a true dirt bike based twin since it would be a maintenance intensive engine. The reliabilty would not be comperable to the eixisting motors. Now before someone posts about the Phazer motor being constructed from two YZ250F motors, years ago I actually read here on TY that was all marketing. The Phazer is based actually off two cylinders from the RX-1 motor and a lot fewer poeple would have run out to buy a baby RX-1. The Phazer is a lot more reliable being based off the Rx-1 however.

I would love too see a 4stk class added to snow-x, since every manufacture has one, but it'll never happen because we know what brand would dominate it.
I think a 4 stroke class is what is needed. Right now the rules are hindering development of high performance 4-strokes. The Cat 1100 twin is not a very high performance motor.

With out the turbo maybe but is still the same motor so I dont agree as the power to be made is out of control....

Don't forget, Robbie is also a former Cat champion. He won 2 class titles on a Cat( no Tucker may have helped).Too bad Yamaha couldn't have continued the program after that.Super Sled said:Ross Martin won Dominator elimination race Friday night on his Polaris and won $10,000.
Then Sarturday former Yamaha champion Robby Malinowski took the win on his Ski Doo. Martin took second on his Polaris and Tremblay took third on his Ski Doo in the Finals. Tucker Hibbert had to settle for fourth on Saturday.
Well see about today soon enough!

I remember that yamaha was going to or did try this. They stated that by the time you add the required balancer shafts and gear reduction you had the same weight as the 3 cylinder...AKrider said:I think the only way for the Nytro to have been competitive in sno-x was to build a 4-stroke twin using dirt bike/F1 technology. remember that snowmobiles are under much much more stress than motorcycle motors and need to be built / tuned accordingly. Only thing worse is a boat motor...

That is what they said when 4 stroke dirtbikes entered the races and won and now I think they all run 4 strokes.

I remember them saying that. I was thinking along the lines of a purpose built motor for sno-x racing only. I think a dirt bike based twin would be a lot lighter than a triple. The motor would be very high strung and not have a lot of longevity but it would be on more equal footing with the purpose built 2-strokes.
Speaking of copying, I was looking at the picture in Supersled's post and the rear arm and shock mounting location of the mono skid sure looks a lot like the rear arm of the R-motion skid.

Not even close to the same short of the basic outline.
