Am I the only one who thinks there is more going on here
than just a kids sled??
I think...cat wants yamahas two stroke hpdfi tech, for
their soon to be produced domestic engines...remember
suzuki is done with cat next year...i also think if cat
makes a dfi two stroke...that they will buy their 4 strokes
from someone else ( and it wont be suzuki)...the logical choice would be yamaha. Look at polaris...they build their own two strokes...but buy their 4 strokes elsewhere (weber) Cat and polaris do alot of
things similarly.

Makes one think...doesnt it...lol

Of what I heard Cat is going to make their own engines. That is what they saying. So speculating about Yamaha is not even a good guess because thats why Cat is breaking with Suzuki. The Yen probs... So there is not likely that they choose Yamaha because they would be in the same problematics.

Cat has actually been wanting Suzuki to buy them. Cat is having financial troubles for the last few years. Suzuki declined to buy them out. the reason yamaha is building the engine for the 120 is that " Yamaha is first and formost a motor manufacture" Yamaha produces engines of all types for more companies than one might think.

Cat is not in financial trouble. Last year they spent 79 million in cash to buy out Suzuki's shares. They still expect to have 60 million in cash at the end of the year.

I think Cat is looking for more design freedom. They have very capable atv engine manufacturing resources and these could easily be used for sled engines as well.

I believe that the big 4 company ratings by financial strength go like this. Yamaha is the strongest financially while Polaris is next followed by Arctic Cat and BRP being last. You have to remember that Ski-Doo received a $30,000,000 bail-out by the Canadian Govt. back in April of 2009 because sales were not keeping up with company costs and sales have been flat for them since that time.

Seems to me that during tough economic/market times it makes a lot of sense for corporate sharing. I can see Yamaha 4 strokes in a Cat chassis and Yamaha using a form of Cat chassis to help their consumers who keep demanding something lighter, different, etc. There's just not enough sled customer base left to continue going broke with R&D.

This will never happen, to much money and brand loyalty in there. It in my opinion would be a disaster if they did.

Cat and Yamaha

Here is why I own a Yamaha. They are great at towing Cats.... :4STroke:
