I saw recently that Slidekicks changed their name to Duraflex Scratchers, maybe because they're hiding from their history or the name Slidekick sounds silly but basically it looks like they eliminated the plastic sheath (that cracked and split) over the heavy cable and may have shortened them a bit. I never had any trouble with them jumping off the rail (they need to be positioned correctly to do this) and they saved me a few times backing up and not needing to put them up and avoid breakage like the spring style will do every time.
Reading about the Hyfax issues on the 11's, even knowing Yamaha moved the back wheels on the 12's, I tried ONE last year as an experiment on my '12 XTX. I put it one on the Right side about a third of the way down the rail in an existing hole and did NOT put one on the Left side.
On one of the last rides of the season, in wet spring conditions, I stopped one afternoon and took a look. The right side was covered in snow/slush and the left side almost bare. I attached a left side/right side picture here from that day, hope it posts OK and then when the season was over inspected my hyfax. The right side had no noticeable wear and the left side hyfax is down to almost nothing under the back wheel and needs to be replaced (Duponts and Excels in the garage waiting to go in). This was the only wear spot on both left/right hyfax so it appears that the Slidekicks, Duraflex, whatever they want to call them do work and with the track distributing the snow, doesn't really matter where you put them.
