I just got a reasonable quote for powder coating of some parts including the rear suspension rails from a local shop.
While looking over my components, the shop owner asked me if I would like to have portion of the rails that silders engage be masked with silicone tape during the process.
He asked me how much tolerance there was in the sliders. I indicated that I'd have to get back to him regarding that.
From what I have seen on the message board, folks are getting the entire rails coated. So, after the couple thou's of powder coat go on how are people's slides fitting? I recently removed my slides and I thought that the slides fit the rails tight as they are now (bare aluminum).
Do you think I should have them masked or just have the entire rail coated?
Any advice is greatly appreicated!
Thanks.

In your case I would have the powder coater mask off part of the rail, better yet I would get any aluminum skid piece anodized instead of powder coating far lighter and won't chip as the anodizing impregnates the color into the aluminum.

Thanks for the idea on the anodizing.
If anyone can comment on how their their slides fit after getting their rails powder coated, I'd love to hear about it.

I did not tape off mine when I did it. Should have. VERY tight. The next set of rails was taped off.

I thought I read that another Manufacturers slides fit the Yami rails, but were much looser. This may be an option if you to powder coat them. Sorry, I cant remember who said it,or what manuf.'s slides they we're talking about.

So, it sounds like the Doo slides may be about 1mm wider. I'll have to look into that. I'd rather have the entire rail coated rather than mask part of it off.

If they're tight now, mask them off.
If they slide right on with a little weight behind them, then it's your call.
On my proaction sled, they were tight before PC and even tighter after. I sanded and filed and sanded and wire wheeled until I got the coating off to get back to just tight. That stuff is a witch with a capital B to get off after the fact, at least mine was.
