slides wear

I wish every season Im talking every 500 or 600 kms. so to me my set-up is wrong..... Went out on new years put on 200kms and there were done..... :o|

Sorry. I don't get it. Looks like I'll get at least 2000 miles out of mine, and many people are doing much better than I am. I'm happy with hyfax wear. Keep my track just tight enough to keep from ratcheting.

I agree with what a few people have said here. Most people do panic a bit a change them to fast. The first 1.5 mm or so will wear off quickly even in the best snow conditions and then the wear rate slows way down. I tried the larger dia. wheels also. I installed the 5 3/8" dia. wheels and saw very little hyfax wear over 5000 miles. I vent back to the stock Yamaha wheels but replace the center steel bushing with a set of bushings I made which have a offset center hole. Moving this hole off center by 1.5 mm moved the wheel down by 1.5 mm. This is very similar to the kit Pioneer Performance sells. Again. no measureable wear over 4000 miles. I also tried the oversize urethane wheels from Maxx perf. and they did not last more thna 1 ride, 200 miles, before they were shot, $130 down the drain.

I put on new hyfax when I had the skid out and after my first 40 miles they looked like the were worn out. I now have 2400 miles on these same hyfax with no new wear and I think I'll get another 2000 miles on them. I carry my track lose at about 1" to 1 1/2" hang. I have no wear on the front, only down were my butt is over the slides.

Now here's a twist for this discussion. I have Hartman rail extensinos to 136", I have a fully clipped ripsaw w/ studs. I have the poor snow conditions whatchamajiggee wheels. The last ride was excellent snow conditions up here in the UP, and put on maybe 120 miles.

Brand new slides. Shot. My dealer was the last one to do any adjustments on this machine last year, and have ahd nothing but problems ever since with slidewear. Now.....the guy doesn't work there and I have no idea what he did. It was one of those things that "I'm gonna change some adjustments for you that you'll love stories".

Well....I haven't bottomed out at all, but all the tension is right at the front of the skid towards the beginning of the bend in the rail. The wear is occuring starting at the 2nd wheel on the skid and about 6 inches or so of heavy wear. Preload?? I already pulled limiters up. :o| Help!

Mine wore down to about an 1/8th left after 40 miles. I now have 3400 miles on the same slides with about 1/16th left.I think I could go another 3000 miles on them. I carry my track loose. With the sled on a rear stand I measure about 1'' to 1&1/4' loose at the bumppers.

I added the Pioneer wheel extension kit and third wheel kit which adds a small yamaha boggie in front...Although I did get 3,000 miles out of my 1st set of hyfax without any mods...I wanted the hyfax to not wear so quick in the beginning I now have 2,300 miles on my graphite slides and I haven't worn more than 20-25% even in the front of the track rail..so it seems to work great ...maybe I'll see about 6,000 miles on my hyfax this time around?? Also I added SLP anti wear pads and I guess its a good thing because most of my track clips are now gone with 5,100 miles on.

Slides are cheap and install in 5 min. Rails are more expensive and install in hour or so. But the slides every year.[/quot

"PLEASE" tell me how to change them in 5 minutes..............I've been changing slides for 20 years.. Never could do it in less than an hour.. Hm.. Tried the hitting them off.. Peeling them off.. Cutting them off.. I have wondered about the tool that screws into the end and has a wieght that can be hammered off... PEEEEEEZE tell me your method. ;)! MM.

I don't know about 5 minutes, but to significantly reduce the time it takes to get the sliders off, pull the sliders out of the rear track windows by a few inches. Start up the sled and put it in reverse. Tap the throttle and in a second, they are completely off. [/quote]

Anyone else doing this reverse thing? It seems like it would be a bit hard on things (e.g. clips, track, etc?). I guess I really must be a "conservative."

It kinda freaked me out too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MM.

It doesn't do a lick of damage.

I too was apprehensive before trying it and once you do it this way, you will always do it this way.
