SLP Powder Pros

Well, with the sledding season coming up, it's time to think about needs for my sled.

I bought my sled with SLP powder pros (skis) on them and an wondering what people thought about them especially if anyone's used them on an Rx-1. Just wondering what the feedback was on those skis.

I've got them on my RX-1. They are fantastic. I wouldn't trade them for anything else. I ride powder most of the time. They are a bit of a bummer on crusty snow.

Same here - great 95% of the time - on crusty snow they tend to catch an 'edge' and jerk the bars around.

Overall I am very satisfied with them.

The powder pros are a great ski. I tried then for a couple rides last year, but settled on the '05 mountain ski. Both skis float and steer great in the powder, but the powder pros required a lot more stearing effort on hard packed trails. Both skis are a little too agressive in crusty spring snow.

I've got PP's and the 05's and I would say that I like the 05's better. Not totally sure why....I think the nose is a little bigger and more spooned out and the bottom is not as aggressive and seems to react better. I am trying to convince my wife to let me swap them once to try them out on my sled. Either way you will be happy.

I too have the 05 Yamaha mountain skis. I ride the trails about as much as I get off the trails and into powder. I was wondering if anyone had ever tried a set of "dually" type wear bars on them? If they fit, you might have the ultimate setup?

I started out with Simons and thought they were pretty good, although a little hard to steer on harder snow at low speeds. I tried the PPs last year and am VERY glad I did. I think they work much better. In the light and fluffy they seem to float better and on hard snow they turn with much less effort.

Powder pro's are great ski's for mountain riding. Looking forward to trying yamy's new mountain ski on the Apex this season.

What are the differences between the Powder Pros and the 05 Yamaha Mountain Skis? I think the differences must be pretty subtle because they look very much alike to me. In fact, one could almost believe Yamaha had SLP make them for them. What's the real story?

LOL - yep they are very similar.

I think the yamaha skis may be a tad wider, and definetly are wider up towards the tips. Other than that they are very similar - so unless you are in love with the looks of one of them, IMO you can just shop on price.

The Japanese are a little smarter than the french (Doo) Simmons copies.
