My new to me Apex MTX came with the stock mountain skis. Looks like he has good aftermarket carbides on there, not sure which ones. I could shim them a bit and try them out. Thoughts?

Another option is I have the 7" Slydog Powderhounds in my garage that I took off my Viper Mtn that I sold. Anyone running this set up?

I'm thinking about putting the Powderhounds on there, but I thought I'd first ask the group.

Thx all

I have slydogs on my TRX1 moutain. But I dont ride trails too much with it. Unload from trailer, then fasted way up trail to get to the hills. I used to use Simmons skies on my 2 smokers. Tried them on RX1, but didnt like then on a noise heavy sled, so tried these. They have been on there since 04, so far no reason to change.

I have been more than happy with the performance of the stock MTX skis. The deeper keel seems to handle the trails decent. The only time I have any kind of problem is when the trails are ROCK solid frozen and no fresh snow for a week. Then they seem to push through the corners some but nothing unpredictable. I run 6" shaper bars but if I went to the 7.5" I think that would help a lot. I don't even have a complaint about them darting like my old GT stock skis would. Very happy with them and if I went to a shorter track sled I would purchase the mtx skis to put on that. (if that ever happened again)
If we are riding any trails with a fresh snow on them or snowing while we ride I can out ride any of my short track buddies because it handles like on rails and I have the track to push through the fresh stuff.

I have had a few skis and a few apex mtx's too.I prefer the slp powder pros.
I happen to have a set all black with apex mounts and 4" carbides for sale.

I had slydog powderhounds on my attak. They were easier to steer and great off trail. They did push in the loose stuff on the trail but not out of control.

I ran Powderhounds the last two seasons on my MTX. They seemed to give me better performance once I put a set of Shaper bars on them but still seemed to have some darting issues. This year I’m running a set of Simmons Gen 3 Flex Skis. With their multiple mounting options I’m hoping to eliminate not only the darting issues but also the heavy steering concerns.
