I installed my new Slydog 8" Powderhounds and my MTX now darts like crazy. It was almost to the point where I felt like I was going to be thrown from the sled while standing up. The skis have Woody's 4" carbides. Can these skis be shimmed? The sled never darted with shimmed Yamaha mountain skis.

I have a set of 8" Powder Hounds and think they do pretty well on my MTX. I do have a little darting but all sleds do. I do not have mine shimmed. They have 6" shaper bars on them. I don't know what to tell you. I installed the 39" Concept this fall but have yet to ride it. They say it helps with trail manners. I am headed to West Yellowstone on Tuesday hope it works as good as claimed.

shim them x2 and align them and check toe-out also check front end bushings. the heavy front end of the nytros wear them out quickly

Put a bungie cord between your skis and check toe out....should have 1/4 - 1/2". I run 7" Slydogs on my XTX and they don't dart with 6" shaper bars and I had 7.5's on last year with same results.
Try widening your toe out in small increments (1/4 turn of tie rod) and test. You'll be suprised the difference it can make.

Slydogs are by far the best sky I have had on my sled (i miss them), with bergstroms triples and shimmed.

I never had time to shim or check the toe really close. I went to camp for the weekend and the powder riding was awesome. I drove on hard pack on the lake and I had to be careful while standing and riding because of the dart. My Ulmer bushings are new this year. New JRE spindles so the spindle bushings are brand new. The Slydog bushing tube thing that goes in the spindle isn't as tight as the Yamaha tube bushing for some reason, so there is a little play there.
My guess what the problem might be is the Slydog ski is not perfectly flat or straight where the carbide attaches. It is a little bit concave. My carbide also bends along with the ski. I am not sure if this is the design or just the skis bent a little bit cooling from the mold. So, this means there is less carbide in the middle of the runner touching the snow and more the front and rear ends of the runner taking the majority of the weight.
Anyway, I will take the plastic shims from my Yamaha mountain ski and attach it the the rubbers of the Slydogs. I will also do the toe.
How strong of a bungee is needed to attach the ski tips when doing the toe?

Not very strong.
Slydog,s are a bitch to measure for toe since they are so flexible.

Sorry to hi-jack ....anyone want to trade slydogs at the end of the year? I have blue/black/white camo powder hounds looking to trade for straight black. Changing the color of my sled over the summer.
