Slydog shimming confusion.

If I do a search, all the posts say to shim the front. However, I talked to Scott B. a few weeks ago and he sent me a 1/4" and 3/8" shim to try on the back of the rubber.

Did Slydog change their rubber mount at some point?

Because when I mounted the ski with no shim, it looked like the front of the carbide would dig in. 1/4" wasn't enough either so I had to use the 3/8" one to get the very tip of the carbide slightly raised.

With the Slydogs, 8" triple points, ski saver and shimming the back I have had zero darting. So I guess I am just curious what changed?

You have to shim the rear of the bumpers (thicken) so that there is more pressure on the rear of the bumper against the spindle in order to make the skis point up, so you did it properly. I used a piece of plastic ski guide for trailers, cut it to about 3/8" thick, and secured it in the bottom of each bumper. It was difficult to get the bolts through the skis and mounted up due to the added thickness, but the skis are pointing up now.

What are you riding? First I heard of needing to shim the Slydogs. I did it on my stock skis with some improvement but didn't find it was needed with the new setup.

I put the skis on with no shim and you could see easily that, the front of the carbide ( the rod part, not the actual carbide) would dig in. With the 1/4' shim in back, is was better but the front of the carbide was flat on the floor. With the 3/8" shim ( which Scott thought I would need), the front tip of the carbide was raised @1/8" off the ground, maybe a bit less.

It works great, I can't complain at all but I was just surious why the older posts say to shim the front of the rubber.

And ya, it wasn't easy to get the ski on with the 3/8" shim by myself. But, with some help from a 2x4 and rubber mallet, it all went well.
