I have borrowed a couple a cross helmets to see how they fit etc. they seem to work real well till about zero degrees. The biggest thing I see with these is the goggle fit. I am eying up the following three helmets. I am leaning toward the new 2014, 509 evolution assuming it fits best with their goggles?

* 2014 509 evolution with cold weather breathe box
* hjc , cl-x6 hadron with breathe box
* klim f4

I'm thinking of using the aviator goggles, or the sinister. Whichever covers the most? I never looked at 509 till this year, since they finally came out with a 3xl. My buddies told me to buy a Home Depot bucket, but don't think that's going to cut it lol. I will wear my bv2s when it gets well below zero, but it has no vents, and is damn hot on those 20-30 degree days IMO. Thanks for your input guys

Their combo works well with either one of their goggles...you will get proper coverage but you should wear a proper balaclava and a no fog mask is important. I use a Scott balaclava as it fits well around my eyes and with the goggles on I get no wind around my eyes which is very important. I also use the FXR no Fog mask that you can get from Yamaha....It's half the price of a No Fog USA mask and works just as good...I've used both. When you get a perfect fitting MX style system...you'll ditch the old set up...I did.

FWIW...I use a cheap ZOX MX helmet with the 509 Aviators or my Scott Hustle Snow goggles and both set ups work great ( even in -25* ) but I feel it has to do as much with the balaclava/no fog set up as it does with quality goggles...The Aviators don't look to have as much of a foam area but I've had no issues with wind. If you are concerned about that then go with their Sinister's as they do have over sized foam.

Man you have a huge dome!

I would think any of your options would probably work. Powersports1 had a huge inventory of the klims selling for cheap. Not sure sizes though.

I have the 509 helmet and have both aviators/sinisters. Aviators win hands down, better vision, better seal. Only thing I had a problem with is snow dust inside the lenses sometimes when its snowing and I'm mid pack. I have not had a chance to look at the new x5 yet, they are probably better then the old models.

Key to wearing this set up is a good balaclava! I just picked up a klim arctic at haydays that looks to be a winner for the colder days. I wear mine all temps and it is colder on real cold days but just need to seal up properly and its fine. I pretty much have zero wiwindshield also.

Some guys will tell you its the worst setup ever and ill really like mine......lots of opinions out there. Go for it, you'll always have your full face for backup. Or have you looked at 509s new modular helmet? Think thst looks pretty nice too

As far as goggles go, I really like Smith Optics. The 509 Aviators look cool ... especially with a mirrored lens, but IMO they don't cover as much of a helmet's open face, exposing skin in some areas. You would think the opposite would be true given that the Aviators are designed to provide excellent peripheral vision. It could be that the goggle frames are just physically smaller, but I never been able to compare them (side-by-side) to other brands.

Of course, helmet openings vary too from one brand to another. I have an Airoh Aviator Helmet in the "Linear Orange" and LOVE it! Super light (950 gms). I wear Smith Optics "Snow Option" and they completely fill the face opening. I Never get cold with these, but they do fog up if I am riding aggressively and then sit for a few minutes with my helmet on. I don't wear a balaclava (no need) and I have ridden in some pretty cold weather with this setup. I also have a mid-height windy on my sled though.

I have the same problem....it's the foam at the lens venting at the top. It seems to get pulled down when you swap out lenses....It's my only complaint about the them.

Huge dome lmao! Yep 6' & 240, but I swear 40 of that is is neck and melon

Arctic balaclava by klim is real deal

With the klim F4 this is the best setup I have with Scott Goggles xi winter snow. I have been in the UP on super cold nights and been good.

I have 2 HJC CL-X5's in 3XL. (prior version of the X6) I use 2 pairs of SPY goggles. (one tinted, one clear for night) I really can't believe there's a big difference in these helmets. My set up works every time flawlessly. If its warm or cold out, if the breath box is in or out, if I'm wearing a balaclava or not. My SPY's have never fogged. The only reason I bought the second HJC was because a couple years ago, spring time, a local shop had a 3XL marked down something ridiculous. Soooooo as my wife would say I had to buy it. The only thing I had to do was find some wicked @$$ epoxy for the velcro strips on the inside of the helmet for the breath box.

Over the years finding 3XL helmets has not been a easy task. good luck.

I see you have a bv2s on in your profile pic. Do you think that thing gets way to hot on those warm days unlike a regular modular with vents? I think that thing is great for site, and fitment on the face, but too darn hot without vents

i have the 509 helmet and aviator goggles (dark tint) and a pair of sinisters with clear lens for night....love both set ups, just make sure you have a good balaclava

I use a Thor force carbon with a klim arctic balaclava and I have found that smith fuel goggles work the best with the snow mask. I might try a pair I'd 100% goggles this year ( a friend is sponsored by them). But I've tried a lot of different Oakley, smith, Scott and 509 and keep going back to the fuel.

I have a guy selling a 2012 Klim F4 helmet 100$? Good deal? I am so scared it is going to be cold. But for 100$ a steal right? Says it is in good condition pics look ok....
