I would like to mount a GPS on my new Apex when I get it. I have only seen one that you can get a motorcycle mount for and It doesn't say whether it's waterproof. Anyone have one that would work and if so what brand and model! Thanks

I have a Garmin GPS V and was also wondering how it will work on the Apex. The big question is how it will hold up in the cold temps? I ride with a MP3 player and if I don't keep it inside my jacket it gets too cold and shuts off. I have had the same issues with both cassette and CD players in the past. Having tunes down the trail is awesome! It works great with headphones from Radio Shack with built in volume control.

GPS

Check with Tork, he has used a handlebar mounted unit for the last couple of winters with great success...

YAMAHA should come out with mounts for their sleds!!!

Really they should put GPS on the sleds, now that they have these fancy gauges!!!

I had mine mounted with heavy duty velcro right in the space by the tach. The velcro was on the back of one of the belt clip holders, with the little nub cut off for a flush fit. The power cord went under the hood to a 12v plug that I added just behing the headlight. It was a pretty slick setup, and it looked like it belonged there. Of course, you couldn't read it while riding, but I only used it to check where I was, or speeds, distances, etc.

I use a Garmin 60cs or a e-trex legend mounted on the flat space left of the gauge on the rx-1. The ram mount is by-far the best mounting system I have found. They have handlebar or flat mounting options. I like haveing the GPS mounted by the gauges not on the handlebars. The pictures I have seen of the Gauge area on the Apex/Attak are not clear as to where to mount it yet.

With a Ram Mount you can do about anything.
My big Garmin Streetpilot Deluxe color screen starts to fade at about - 15-20 degrees. If I put my hand over it for a minute or 2 it lasts about 20-30 minutes before it fades again. The Garmin 5 is smaller and the garmin handlebar mount works well in many cases.

Fixed your link Sasquatch www.ram-mount.com/gps/gpsgarmin.htm
(take off the http// just use the www.) :D

you might see better pictures at www.cyclegadgets.com which is actually where Ive bought all my ram mount stuff, great people!

Here is where I mounted my Magellan with a RAM Mount on my 2003. It worked great except next time I would NOT install a power cord. I disconnected my power because if I didn't have the GPS it just dangled there. Get yourself a set of 2300mAh re-chargeable batteries and they will last about 10 hours in the coldest of cold. No wind in that spot! Worked great!

I emailed Garmin and asked them which model they suggested and they recommend the Quest 2.
It has a toppo with snowmobile trails, hicking trails etc. It looks like a $400 investment!

I have 3 GPS units now

But the one I want to get very badly is the garmin 276c
It has a big 3.8" diagonal screen.
And it can be seen in bright sunlight. special LCD that uses sunlight to amplify daytime viewing
Plus it is a Mapping GPS which means it can store your routes, several of them, you can download them to a computer if you need more space This is regarded to be the best for motorcycle use www.gpsonsale.com/MarineGPS/Marine-Prod ... &ovtac=PPC

downside is it costs $600[/b]

I have an 276C mounted in the padding in the handlebar. And I can assure you that that TFT-screen is visible in bright daylight regardless of where the sun is, and in nighttime it's so bright that you have to turn down the backlight a bit. And it's also viewable in action, no stopping to check the GPS-screen.

And in the summer I just mount it in the boat and use the Bluechart, or in the car with the City Select maps...
