So I got the estimate for my replacement motor....

If you guys think other manufactures are any better go read their boards. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. Trust me.

I have 2 seasons on my XP and only a small coolant leak that my dealer fixed asap. The 2 stroke is much easier to rebuild and cheaper if it blows.

Well there are success and horror stories with all of them. I spend a lot of time on Dootalk and its the same as here. Honestly, if a new engine is that much buy a brand new sled and part out your old one or part out the new one and take the engine and sell the rest.

$8059.00 with labor to get it replaced. This is not a joke, that is what it will cost to have the dealer replace it. Less than $2000.00 of that is labor and if you saw what it takes to get the motor out of one of these things most of you would pay someone else to do it. That labor also covers the motor assembly. The parts alone are well over $6000.00. Is Yamaha for real with this stuff?? Why the hell don't they sell a freaking crate motor or even a short block for this thing? You have to buy the motor in pieces and pay to have the dealer build it or build it yourself. I could buy a badass Chevy crate motor making over 600+ horse for what it costs to buy the parts to build a 3 cylinder Nytro motor. So how many times can I rebuild a 2 stroke motor for that kind of money? Several times in my book and I don't need a team from freaking NASA to get the motor out of the sled. My Nytro is currently a bare tunnel at this point sitting at the dealer. Nice work Yamaha, design a flawed filter location so the filter can easily be cut by a sharp metal bar that you put right under it and then gouge us to rebuild the motor. Not to mention all the other things that appear to be failing on these things after what I consider low miles. I think I'm done at this point, just waiting for my insurance to settle on it.

Wow, that really sucks! You can buy a clean low mileage FX for 6Gs. Hope your insurance covers it! If it does, keep it and beat it!!!! ;)!

man that really sucks,i know...i've got a 06 polaris switchback turbo(otherwise known as a fst)sitting in the shed that not only needs a 7000$ motor, but also a 1300$ turbo.a oil line from the turbo to the engine came loose and ran most of the oil out before i got it shut down.gee never heard of that before says the dealer. of course there is no warranty on it.
