OK wife and I both have Apex's and she is not happy with the skis in the loose powder.
So I need a ski which woould work best for mostly groomed trails with some light powder days. In wisconsin we rarely have ALOT of snow on the trails before its groomed but she wants a little better cornering all around in all factions.
I did order triple points for both hers and mine, but since his theft Im considering going with a different ski all together.
So if you were me - 99% groomed trails and usually pretty icy, and at times with snow cover on top of the ice and your wife said go buy both of us skis we will enjoy and get good action out of....
Which ski would you get? I have Apex RTX she has Apex LTX

I should add both sleds are studded heavily.
I go 300lbs and she is half of that, turning effort will need to be taken in consideration for her without a doubt.
I have read back to 2 years and seems everyone is happy with any aftermarket ski comparitivly.
right now Im leaning towards the Ski doo skis on that 229 dollar deal.

I put some C&A's on my RTX and i love them, they are aggressive and that sled rails like no other. I have also heard that slydogs are also the way to go. I know every other day theres a 3 page topic started on what skis i should use etc. etc. go to the Apex forum to get good info.

Pilots would be my choice for her because they steer more easily than C&A's, Simmons, and Slydogs.

These are a new manufacture this year, company owned by ex-factory sponsered sno-crosser/Engineer. He is friends with Blair, Tucker, Robbie Aaron Excell, the list goes on. These guys love his ski's. Aaron sells then through his shop as well, I have a set on order myself.

I have the Slygogs and like them a lot. I rode my buddies sled (which is identical to mine) and he has the Pilots. I liked the way it steered a lot also. All things being equal, the Pilots are a little cheaper...

I have slydogs on my attak and love them, a huge improvement over the stockers.
This thread could start and never end, everyone has their preferences.... would be nice to find a friend that had some different skis on an apex/attak that you could try....
my vote is for the slydogs, i got the powderhounds, same bottom keel, but little wider for those off trail days..... not to mention the slydogs come in cool color swirls....

Well right now its either pilots for both...or slydogs for me and pilots for her.

I run a usi px301 . great on trail with no darting at all and in the powder, since the ski is wider they really work well compared to stock. I only have studs in the middle so 4" carbides seem to be all i need and I ride pretty aggressive thru the turns. Carbide may need to be longer if you had more studs. ) 05 RX1 still sweet!!

The cornering is the best I have tried. Yes a little more steering effort at very slow speeds. But how goes very slow?????
At 7.25" wide they really help the Attak in deeper snow.
As for the Pilots. They just did not have enough grab for me in the loose corners. I had to lessen the weight transfer to get the sled to not push.
With the XT's I have the transfer at almost max. No push in the corners.

I find the biggest problem with most threads on ski's are that most are not really specific to the advantages. Most just say they rail or handle good...
The biggest dissapointment with the Apex is you constantly have to steer it. I would like to know if any of these aftermarket ski's are floating over trail chop or are they following the ruts? The stock ski's with studboy deuce bars (current set up) alleviate the darting but follow every little rut in the trail... I tried C&A razors and didn't like them either. It wanted to hunt with these on as well.
Do the pilots or slydog ski's drive over the trail chop or do they follow what's on the trail as well? Is darting completely gone with these single runner skis? Or is it just a design issue with the chassis on this sled?

Will be nice to know how wide the curve ski is?

The Keel on the XT's are making very large grooves in the snow. They cut their own path and do not follow. If the do drop into a groove just hop out.
Some of the other advantage of the XT is the ability to pack loose snow for more positive steering in turns. For that the downside is the are harder to steer when going very slow. This ski also floats well on powder.
