So I noticed today I'm bouncing off the rev limiter a bit more than usual. Switch sleds with my buddy for a few miles. He stops and is whining my belt is too tight and shows me the sled won't stop. I take the side cover off and see my primary clutch spider is cracked badly. I am guessing it broke shortly before I swapped sleds, but finally shifted off the center when he rode it. I'll be taking it in on Monday for this as well as my junk ball joints, control arm bushings and bent upper control arms because of the nasty slop in the front suspension. I am aware I may not have all my suspension issues warranted, but what does everyone think about coverage on my clutch? I have a '09 XTX with 4600 miles. I bought it Feb, 2009 and have not had it in for one single warranty repair since new. I have 3 years left on my coverage. I'll post a pic when I can.

Does the sled have stock clutching components? If yes, should not be an issue.

Bone stock, never been touched other than to change belts. I have blown a few belts however.

If it is still stock condition it should be replaced....

Let us know if or what they cover in the front end under the YES. Thanks!

Grooving down low in the primary is becoming a problem for many as these Yamaha's are going further and longer.
The 8DN belts are so hard and the stock clutch set-up slips and grabs alot at engagment.
Did it look like your cracks originated from grooves down low in there?
I've heard of grooves so bad that it practically cuts off the sheaves.
All becuase of stock clutching.

No, the grooves did not crack, it was the inside spider that cracked. I took a pic and will try to upload it tonight.

So here is my 4600 mile pre-inspection before I send it to the dealer. I tore the sled completely down today to inspect everything.

Limiter straps worn on the bottom now. They were perfect at the beginning of the season (3100 miles)

R foot area has a rivot that wore completely through and is loose. There is also a crack starting on the side of the tunnel in the rear on that side where the foot area kicks up towards the rear.

Ball joints are TOAST!!! Expecially the lowers. There are pieces hanging out of them.

Control arm bushings have serious play, especially the uppers.

Clutch spider broken

Exhaust donuts don't sound bad, but I can see the center clamp competely fell off!! A buddy just had me over to tighten his as two were completely loose at 3000 miles.

Both lower brackets for the radiator are broken at the mounting nut. This was the same for my friend's sled. I don't think the fan is working either as it doesn't kick on before the temp light comes on.

Clutch hitting plastic below the primary.

Not to mention serious slide wear before I installed ski doo idlers.

So this will be the FIRST time in for warranty repair. I wonder how much they will cover? None of these issues were present at the beginning of the season (3100 miles) with exception of the lower radiator brackets and very minor play in the ball joints.

My guess is they won't warranty it. Seems like Yamaha dealers don't like to warranty anything and blame Yamaha themselves. I talked to a Yamaha rep and he told me they won't warranty wearable parts. Asked for an example and he said "slides and bogies". So I said what about ball joint on the upper a-arms. Said ya that would be warrantied. So next ? was why don't the dealers warranty them. Of course no straight awnser.

Why can I get a decal warrantied on my Chevy truck? But to have to pull teeth to get a item warrantied on a sled?

Sorry to ran't and jump off subject alittle. But good luck and keep us posted. If you have luck getting it warrantied then maybe we will also if we have that same problem someday.

clutch

Had 4950 miles on my 09 fx and it wore grooves in the primary clutch face and also wore groove in the weights and they replaced it under warranty at the end of last season.Started the season with a new primary clutch after warrany.Had spring checked it so I got a 4 year warranty.Just put in for the upper ball joints warranty today.5463 miles.Never had an issue with warranty, sometimes they want the old parts back to see what went wrong.
