Crazy how much crap buildup in the chaincase chains and gears!
When I pulled the guts out I cleaned everything up spraying it with wd40 and put everything in a sealed Tupperware container filled with oil
2 week later this is what the inside of the container looks like!! (Agitating the container during the 2 weeks)
This is after a worn top gear bushing

Mine looked the same after soaking in my parts washer. almost looked like someone had sprayed all parts with metal flake paint. It took three good washings/rinses of all parts to get the metal particulate off.

Probably a good practice to pay more attention to cleaning internals when doing chaincase maintenance!!! I will be anyway
All that crap also gets in bearings!!!

Me too. I'm hoping the 2 quarter-sized round magnets I installed inside my chain case help attract and trap anything metal. Based on the metal fuzz I see on the little speedo magnets I thought more and bigger more powerful magnets would help.

I am not ready to reinstall the chaincase assembly yet so I sprayed the gears again, cleaned the container and put parts in clean oil!
Curious to see if they are spotless this time..lol

Did you glue them in? What did you use?

Gorilla Glue 2-part epoxy. Lower right side. I tested this epoxy by gluing a magnet to a bare piece of aluminum (letting it cure for 24 hours) and then baking it in my oven submerged in chain case oil for 24 hours at 200 degF. Did not soften, or degrade the epoxy. Would have had to break the magnet to get it off so I figured it was good to use inside chain case. I know a friend of mine used Permatex Ultra Black Maximum to put some in his case.
Caution: if someone decides to do this, do not get them too close to speedo magnets that are in the rubber plug in end of track shaft as that might cause your speedo to not work at all or cause it be read wrong. I wanted to put them under the lower gear but decided that was too close to those little magnets.

I bet that glue that comes with the heat exchanger protector would hold good ! I’m doing the magnets in the case before next winter as well. Great idea!

For two seasons I have pulled the gears and chains out and washed them in gas with a paintbrush. It wasn't bad this year but last year (after its first full season), the metallic particulate in the pan would have you thinking you were panning for gold. Lots of debris.

Get as much of that out as possible. Even the chain case cover has lots of areas to trap dirt etc. Spraying brake cleaner in there helps flush it out, and wash the thing down.
