just put 65 miles on my 08 Ltx. first time on a Apex, Ive roder rev's Polaris swichback's Rmk's dragons etc... And yet to try a sled that perform's like this. im 6'9 but 180lb's and this machine fit's me perfect and seems easy to make it do what u want it to do. Had ZERO problems getting use to the engine break n stuff.... Just seems liek a natrual fit :Rockon: :yam:
 

If deep snow sledding is what you're looking for, most people would be happier on a stock 136" REV than a stock 136" Attak. I'd bet a 136" REV-XP will be incredible in deep snow.

On the other hand, every time I get on a REV I can't get over the rattling, vibrating, smoking, buzzing and clattering that makes it feel like I'm sitting on a piece of junk. Right away the 2-stroke smoke starts to soak into my clothing and when I put my suit in the closet it stinks up the rest of our winter clothes and even the house.

After that I get back on my smooth, sweet sounding 4-stroke Yamaha and know the 2-stroke is not for me.

Most of the sleds made these days work well and Yamaha's current line up isn't the best at everything, but it is the best performing sled if one of your requirements is a BMW like drivetrain that doesn't stink.

For deeper snow use, if you want to ride with some of the lighter 2-strokes, you might want to consider upgrading the skis and track to compensate for the extra weight. Whatever footprint the lightweight 2-stroke has, the Apex will need more to compensate.

If you compare a REV-XP Renegate 800R to an Attak fully loaded with rider, ready to go, the weight difference is something like 700lbs to 850lbs or 20% more weight on the Apex. To get similar deep snow performance you need somewhere between 15-20% more track and ski surface area (on the ground) and this is the difference between a 121" and a 136" track or 136" and a 144".

I don't know why Yamaha doesn't offer a crossover 144" sled with a tipped up rear rail. It would work very well on/off-trail.

You could always try the Attak and upgrade the track and skis if you need the deep snow performance. I'm fairly sure that's what I'd do if I wanted off-trail performance. You could also look at Camoplast's new 16"x136" deep lug Challenger track. That extra 1" width and 1.75" lug would make a big difference and with a little work it should bolt on.

One last thing, if you're thinking of scrapping the Attak and picking up a REV-XP, keep in mind this is the first year for the totally new, super leightweight sled. It is bound to have some issues. The Attak on the other hand is on it's 3rd year and was based on the 3 season old RX-1 (at the time). This years Attak will be the best Attak yet.
 
I spend little to no time on any kind of groomed trail. They just don't exist up here. My '06 Attak has been the best sled I have ever sat on. I've ran mine bone stock on the river in 2'-4' of untouched powder and never had any real problems at all. Pay attention to where and how you stop and try not to trench in on take off and you should be fine. The deep snow performance does leave alot to be desired, but with some small mods you will be quite happy. First thing is to get some powder skis. I just went to my local dealer and he is going to hook me up with a deal on some Apex Mtn. skis the next time someone has aftermarket ones put on before they pick it up. When you can, buy a 1.5" Camoplast Intense, (or similar) for the powder performance this machine needs. The ripsaw truly does not perform too well in the deep.

All sleds are basicaslly good it takes work to make any sled work for you. If you think you buy a thourobred and it races the next week well your not getting the roses. Besides if all sleds out of the box were the best we'd all be bored with the sport.

These 4 strokes have the most potential of any sleds ever produced. I have old school sleds that have the same amount of work done to them and they are still just sleds.

Customize, make it faster, more comfortable, more flexible & more radicle makes it yours. I guarantee when I park mine among 50 or 60 others I don't have to hit the panic button to find her & when I come across the lake my buddies say oh here he comes now.

After spending over 10,000 miles on the saddle of a Viper (which I thought was the greatest sled ever), it doesn't come close to my Attak. Yea it is heavier, but I never had a problem because of it. I love the 50% better gas mileage, smooth ride, and incredible power - I thought the Viper was fast, it's a dog by comparison. Rider forward position is great if it's bumpy - standing up is no problem or... sit back and enjoy a nice groomed trail. The electronics are awesome to, nice to have a clock on the dash. Like any sled, there are a few (very few) flaws but by far... this is the best sled I've owned since my first 1979 Exciter. As already stated, make some unique changes cosmetic or otherwise - and make it your own.

Please, no flaming - it's all MHO.
