There has been alot of pissing and moaning about people making comments on sled prices within the thread of a sled that's for sale in classifieds. Why is it OK for someone to post on that thread and say "great price, it should sell" But no one can say anything if they no the price is out of line like "kinda high there mr seller, they are selling new for less right now"? There are many that come to this site knowing we know our stuff. I see nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade. Just my 2 cents.............

As a victim of price bashing, I can tell you that it sucks.

First of all: Most of the time, these comments are coming from people who aren't interested in the item at all. Is that fair?

Second: Take the GT for sale in the classifieds for instance. Even when there isn't a price, or pictures, people still complain and badger the seller's efforts anyway.

IMHO: You may not agree with the price, but at least have some scrupples to keep that to yourself, or PM the seller, or make an offer.

I have to agree that any negative comments from people who have no interest in buying should be avoided. Especially when someone posts an item or sled for sale and then someone posts "I saw that on Ebay for cheaper".

If your worried that the sellers price is out of line then send a PM.

I also believe that positive comments are fine, like "I have one of those and they are great".

Just my thoughts...

Price also depends on the condition of the sled and mods, accesories and the area of the country were it is for sale, as there is a difference. The mid-West seems to have the lowest prices wereas here in the East prices on general are higher.
One really has to see the sled to determine the price that they are willing to pay for it.
Just my 2cents.

An old saying comes to mind, I believe my Mother told it to me:
"If you haven't got anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all"

The PM function is for comments not relative to your buying the sled. I would also suggest that you search all posts by the seller to check posts relative to the sled.

The only problem I have is with the fishing posts, "think might sell". Used sleds are a problem and if you sell you must accept that fact, the days of riding a sled for a year and only losing $1500 are long past. Most dealers don't want them and most educated buyers know that.

Just to set the record straight MrSled's viewpoint on this is that if you don't have something nice to say don't say it at all. (must be related to crewchiefs mom lol) Critisizing someones price is considered hijacking and won't be tolerated. Feel free to use PM's if you don't agree with the asking price. But do not publicly knock what someone else considers to be it's true value. One man's Junk is another man's treasure.

My point is that I want to protect an ususpecting buyer as well. I'm sure everyone here has purchased something only to find out later they got hosed on the price. I know, buyer beware......

Here's an idea; Lock the thread so no one can comment and force the potential buyers to PM the seller. This way if the seller doesn't get a chance to check it for a few days he will get an e-mail informing him of the message immediatly then once he signs on he gets that cute little pop up reminder.

Buyer protection is what paypal, credit cards, and appraisals are for. If you're not competent to judge for yourself, you should ask/hire someone to appraise it FOR YOU. This does NOT mean posting publicly, it means that if someone wants to buy something from you (for example), and they trust MY judgement, they might PM me and ask my opinion, which I would give privately. If someone is not competent and fails to take necessary precautions, then they deserve what they get.

Botom line! What some one is willing to sell somthing for (to high or to low) is there business. And what some one is willing to pay is there business as well. Why any body think's that they need to be the price police is beyond me. Let's just say you have somthing you will sell if you get good money for it and a nother person need's this thing and is willing to pay good money for it. All of a sudden some one pop's in and deter's that person frome making the purchase, Don't tell me you would not be wizzed off. This has happened to me! If you are not interested in purchasing it, it is not your business and if you are interested, make an offer. End of my vent. kviper

While it is very easy to argue about all of this, the bottom line is it is a classified section and should not be a discussion thread. The only way to stop the continuing episodes of classifieds turning into a discussion thread is to not allow anyone else to post a reply. I do not know if this is possible. I would think a pm, email or a phone call would be sufficient. Just creating new classified rules and etiquette would be completely ignored.

snowATTAKer,I think that's only way you going to put a stop.I don't like the idea of that but if that's what it takes I'm all for it.

There's a permission that can be set on the forum that does not allow reply's I'm assuming that means someone can post and basically do what you guys are saying. Not a bad idea guy's I'll take it up with MrSled. Sure would eliminate all the banter.

Best idea Convert, seller lists his email and phone if he wants, if anyone is seriously interested they will contact him. Limit replies to PM only. Most items are sold with PMs anyway as most posts are by lookers only.

But seller should show picture and at least the location.

Jim

I don't necessarily like the idea of locking the thread down. There can be a lot of discussion that helpful for others who may be interested in the sellers item. Why can't we just be adults and leave discussions of price out of the threads? Is it that hard?
