I noticed a vibration somewhere in or under my hood at low rpm, mostly prior to engagement. It sounds like sheet metal or maybe in my hood screens. Anyone else experience this?? PS- its not my heat sheilds. I solved that problem.

I noticed it too were thinking it is the hood spring and cables we were goin to try wraping the cables with black tape?It is not the hood screens i tried holding my hand on them when prior to engagment.I dont think it is the cables that come off of the battery they are all taped with rubber ends try the hood spring and the cables that keep it from flipping forward see if that takes care of it.

On mine I find that the rattle is coming from the primary clutch. Noise goes away prior to engagement. May look at a clutch kit or updated clutch if Yamaha has one. Sounds like my old ZR clutch before I upgraded that clutch. Was nice and quiet after the upgrade.

Ive got the vibration noise too. Someone mentioned the primary and although it has a slight ring, its not what Im concerned about. The noise seems to come from the rear of the motor, somewhere between the fuel tank and the exhaust headers. I cant see or feel far enough inside to find it. Mine only occurs AFTER my sled is warmed up and ridden a few miles, and I only hear it at low rpm's. Its just enough to embarrass you when you pull up next to your pal at the fuel pump.

Dom,
Sounds like your noise is coming from the exhaust, check to see if the heat shield is cracked. See other posts about this topic. hope this helps.

When I bought my 03 shorty from the dealer he said there was a recall to put 2 small rubber stops on top of the hoop that is under the hood. If you look at yhe bottom of your hood you might notice 2 small wear marks. They fixed this on the 04. I am not sure if this is your problem but it could cause something like you are describing.

Deshkae found this last year I believe it was the plastic piece that the windshield attaches too he pulled it all apart and used some sort of weather stripping or something to cushion it.

The windshield isnt my problem, because I can hear the noise even when the hood is open. Its still coming from somewhere down around the steering post or something.

Snow,
I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but I don't know if you are new to the RX1. You aren't hearing the noise from the gear reduction behind the primary, are you? If it's not that, it could be your tools rattling. I put tissue, on top of my tools, because Yamadoc complained about a rattle, and I thought that might be it.

HA,,, No intelligence here..... Its not the reduction gear, but maybe the tools. I will have to get back to you on that one... It just sure sounds like the rear side of motor, but I will investigate this weekend. THANKS !!
