I here alot of guys saying they are checking there speeds with a GPS. What kind of GPS are you useing? Garmin??? They seem king of big to mount on the sled and go 100mpg. I am intrested in buying something that can give me accurate speeds. Any info would be great.

Nearly all of the hand held units from the major brands will show top speed. Garmin is a fairly popular brand, however I've had good luck with Lowrance.
Last winter I used a Lowrance iFinder Pro handheld device mounted to the handlebars that worked great and wasn't in the way. This summer I upgraded to a Lowrance XOG and I'm hoping it works just as well, if not better. I upgraded to get the color screen and better functionality when used in a vehicle.
As for mph accuracy, it's been my experience that gps's tend to do better when you're traveling at a constant speed. If you watch the gauge, it'll jump around as your speed increases instead of climbing one mph at a time. If you take a top speed run and let off as soon as you max out, it may or may not capture the highest reading. If you do a run and have the space to run at full throttle for 2-3 seconds it should be enough time to make sure you've captured your highest speed. Every gps that I've seen or used had the ability to record the top speed, so there is no need to watch the screen while driving.

I have a garmin 60cx and love it for the sled . i have a nuvi 600 for my truck though.
My 60cx records max speed so you can check when you slow or stop

I use a basic Garmin ETrex. You can get reconditioned ones for about $100 and they give you all the info you need. Location, top speed.....

Thats the one I have too etrex ledgend ,not the most fancy but its been tough.I do notice when it gets really cold out the numbers are slow to react as well as screens.
I installed a 12 volt accessory outlet on the RX-1 and have one of those heated pouches. I drop it there to warm it up when not in use and that fixes here up for about 10 to 20 mins depending on temp.

I use a 76C but any gps with a top speed function will work. I just keep the unit in my chest pocket & it works perfect.

The GPS things are accurate, but on the downside they tend to be a wake-up call to people who boast about their top speed from what the dream-o-meter says. At WOT the speedo on my sled reads nearly 15mph fast. GPS reads around 98-100, the speeds reads 112. But boats are even worse.
I have a cheap E-trex. Cost like $90, and it's been severely abused and it keeps working.
