Could be a durability thing too- lots of guys THINK they ride like snowcross guys, but they do not put there sleds under 1/10 the amount of stress a snowcross sled is- lots of coin to replace.
And like bottlerocket said- there is a very very small fraction of public snowmobile trails that contain surfaces similar to a snowcross track- so running skis that work in those conditions might not be the best choice for 95% of riders anyways...
