Today I went and started my RX1. It was about -10F. Started as normal as any other cold start, however this time I had no headlight tail light and no electrical to the gauges. I looked under the hood moved the wireloom and nothing. I went inside and bitched to my wife and then looked out and everything was on. I rode 50 miles that day and no problems again. This is the first time I ever had this happen. Any one else? The only electrical mod I have is a cigarette lighter plug in hard hired to the battery for my GPS, but it wasn't even pluged in. I've never even run the battery dead. I've 675 miles.

i'm sure theres a reasonable explanation...... the headlight doesn't come on until it does a system check, i think.... perhaps your battery was low or something?... i've notice that the headlight doesnt always come on at the exact same time... it does vary occasionally

Sounds to me like a flakey relay. Check that the connections to your relays are clean and well lubed. Also listen for the light "click" that the relay makes at the point when the light should turn on. If it doesn't click, check the voltage at the relay. If there is voltage, but the relay doesn't click, then the relay is bad. If the relay clicks, and there's no voltage AFTER the relay, then the relay is bad. If there is no voltage BEFORE the relay, then the source wire is bad. If the relay clicks and there is voltage BEFORE, but not AFTER the relay, then the relay internal contacts are dirty (the relay is bad).
Well RODDOR, I had the exact same problem on Satuday, the sled hadn't been run for about a week, started it and backed it out of the shed no problems, then it was parked outside for a couple of hours and when I went out no electrical once started and the battery turned it over fine. Turned it off and started it again, OK now. Went a couple of miles to a restaurant to have dinner, came back out a hour later, same thing. Shut it off and started it again, same thing, on the third try the electrical came on and everything was fine all night and I turned it off/on several times. Yesterday the electrical came on every time. I never did check any connections and I didn't leave it on very long to see if it would kick in eventually. Don't know where the problem might be. Where is this relay that turns everything on anyway?

Mybe some water in you relay causing it not to switch over I would run the tests above that Lazy recomended small amount of water could form little ice chip to prevent contact. Then when engine compartment warms up ice mets enough or vibration lossens it enough to allow contact. LOL sounds good in theory
Hey RODDOR, the very same thing happened to me this past Friday. I started it up on the trailer and after a few seconds noticed nothing had lit up. Waited a few more seconds and still nothing. Was just about to shut it down and lo and behold everything came alive! It was about -15 so I'm chalking up to the cold, possibly moisture somewhere. Ran like a top the rest of the day.

This happened to me 2 weeks ago. Rode all day Saturday and Sunday morning when I went to start it no lights or gauge. Shutdown and restart, got the lights but still no gauge. One more restart and got everything. It wasn't even that cold then. Starting at -25 this weekend was no problem. Go figure. :roll:
Same thing happens on my SRX when its really cold out. AFter about about 5 minutes the lights and tach will suddenly come on. My dealer has looked at it and can't find a thing wrong. It's always done this when it sits over night in -20 temps. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Yep just the relay, my srx does it all the time in severe cold. I usually start to ride with them off after it warms up. And then 2 minutes of riding boom relay warms its good to go. I dont think you need to replace it, common thing.
