I took apart the magneto cover and removed the housing and magneto rotor to access the sprag clutch (starter clutch) Mine had gotten so bad the sparg would no longer turn the engine or catch in any way. In an attempt to save some cash I shortened the spring that holds the roller bearings together I found this mod from another member on here who had posted this link: http://www.mad-ducati.com/Technical/StarterSpragClutch/SpragClutch.html this worked.... for about 4 starts.... after clipping about 2-3 mm off the spring. So I am back to square one lol.
I think ill clip a little bit more off the spring yet before opting to buy the brand new sprag.
I'll post my findings here as I can only assume others sprags may begin to fail with the ages of these machines increasing.

I could also post a write up if anyone is interested/concerned that there's might be failing.

Attempted to shorten the spring again with no luck, had to end up purchasing a new sprag clutch. I would steer anyone away from the 'cheap fix', unfortunately if your bearing rollers are worn on the sprag, replacement is the only way to remedy this issue. Parts cost after tax was $ 258 CDN from the dealer.
