Looks like my one-way bearing has packed it in on my main grooming sled, dang it.

Ordering parts soon and will get into it, appears the side cover can come off the engine without removing motor mount bolts, exhaust, etc. which is a big plus:

Have either of you done this before? I am reading M7 is the bolt size required to pull the flywheel, not sure I have any of those and it does seem like a very odd size/ not very Yamaha-ish. See how it goes.

Any of you tackled this yourselves?

Sorry, I haven't done the job before. That video was a nice find.

How did you diagnose your one way bearing?

The starter is spinning but the engine is not. No grinds, no chatter, just a free-spinning starter. Tell-tale sign that the one-way brg has failed.

Thanks Jack, good to know.

I'm thinking this will have to be a Summer job, unfortunately. Too many other sleds, interests and want to make max use of the snow conditions we have instead of wrenching. I will gather the parts I need just the same.

Not exactly a cheap repair this one.

In Canadian Dollars:

8GL-15590-00 One Way Bearing - $308.07
8FA-15515-00 Big Gear - $198.77
8ES-15461-00 Side cover gasket - $26.53
8ES-15512-01 Idler gear - $128.81 (potentially not needed, but has been updated to be more durable)

Nearly $800 + my labour.

I think this will be a job for the Spring when riding is overwith, for now she will remain parked.
