08 nytro no start issue no error code red warning light only
hey All got mine running today thanx to all
figured i would share what happened maybe will help someone
would crank over like hell just wouldnt catch , sputtered a few times but never ran
had the "warm up red' light on no error code or anything else
i had put new plugs in less than ten starts ago and it ran great, had it up on a stand revvved uP few times etc.
sooo
replaced the solenoid and the relay (front one in diagram) same issue no start
drained gas put in new and antifreeze
one kick then nothing
tried the unhooking of the TORS, same problem
put in new plugs AGAIN, one was dead from the idling apparently if run sled take it for a ride to clean off, dry out the plugs seems the idle is very bad for plugs if ya dont go for a rip
also put a trimmed rubber glove over the relays and the solenoid after putting di lithium electric grease on
SHE FIRES RIGHT UP NOW NO PROB
hope that may help someone
cheers

Hey GrizzWith all the starting problems this my help save time and money.

Relay and fuse location diagram: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=83992
A couple common places for corrosion which can cause issues with starting are the ignition switch connector and the starter relay connector.

Was just reading this and just wondered if you could explain what exactly causes the no start .
Here’s what mine is doing.
I can start mine up . Runs perfect then go for a tour , then all of a sudden it shuts down. Like someone hit kill switch. I go and start it and I don’t hear the fuel pump turning on. ( I have red relay installed) , we pin pointed it to the starter solenoid ( relay I guess Yamaha calls it)
We thought it was the fuses ( 2 red ones on either side of connector or that big green maxi fuse.
We can wiggle fuses and wire connector and it would turn fuel pump on and start up and run. But it would qwite too in some situations.
Now come to find out 1 red fuse is a spare ( my bad lol ) and other red fuse is fuel pump.
Question is, is it the solenoid ( relay) itself or could it be the the accuall wire connector ( plug in) that’s actually doing it.
I know there’s alittle green corrosion in there. And we’ve tried cleaning it.
I have a brand new solenoid ( relay) I’m going to put on.
Just wanted to know if that should fix the no fuel pump problem or do we have to look into the wiring itself that plugs into the solenoid (relay)
Maybe get pointed in some kinda direction.
Thanks Grizz

Have you checked the main harness that runs behind the primary? It has a tendency to rub on a casting nub on the block and chafe causing a shut down. Very common.

Sounds like corrosion or a bad wire. There are common failure points in the main harness. The most common rub point is under the steering and the most common corrosion problems are at the starter relay connector and the plug that connects the key switch. Periodically replacing the starter relay and shielding it is always good preventive maintenance.

Hey guys. Thanks for the replies.
I think I’ve found the problem.
I replaced the starter solenoid and cleaned all fusses Minnie fuses aswell. And dielectric grease them all.
I put new starter relay on and it accually did the same thing as before. Then I cleaned and dielectric greased the big green maxi fuse beside starter relay. And fired rite up and it seems to be working like it’s old self. So I’m thinking it was in the big green maxi fuse all along.
Here’s hoping.

I am troubleshooting mine now that I am close to complete on rebuild. Battery was dead so bought new one, I thought maybe the new battery was the issue... during track alignment first start fine, adjust track, second start fine, adjust track, third start "click" only of the starter solenoid. Like a low battery voltage. New AGM battery so surprised, plugged in battery tender, ten minutes showed green, started right up... Had battery checked and CCA was 510 vs 310 printed on battery. Pep Boys gave me a new one (different brand) no issues (they are great) and I bought some dielectric grease. Will check and lube things up.... Hope not a stator, starts nice so think it is a relay - connector issue.
Hooray!

Grizz, I am now (finally) on to my electrics, cleaning up the Yamaheater wiring, adding HIDs and LEDs... I notice how nice and tidy your wiring looks compared to my rats nest of wiring. Did you add the wire harnesses yourself? Seems like things could use a clean up on mine. I am thinking of greasing all the connectors just afraid of messing with what is working.

Make sure you use dielectric grease on all connections. You can buy it at most auto parts stores.

Mine looked exactly like yours, cleaned up perfectly, put some dielectric grease on it and keep as spare on sled (installed the new one). Ended up being my starter brushes so replaced starter and rebuilt old one. Quite a project to change it but did it without pulling motor, used the pry method detailed in my front end rebuild thread, worked great and relatively easy to perform.Well, 10 years of use and I finally started having solenoid issue . Ordered a new one but it looks like I could have gotten away with just cleaning the connections. Oh well, I will now have a spare in the tool box![]()
