I am thinking of doing a four two patern for 144 studs, keeping away from the shock, with double backers. What is the deal with alluminum backers, compared to steel? All I have ever done is steel single backed studs.

Thanks Bob

I've had bad luck with aluminum the past two years. I had an 04 Polaris 600 Classic and studed it with aluminum backers. It had a 1"track I don't remembet the stud legnth but it was what was recommended. Quite a few of the backers bent.
I replaced the bent backers with new ones and studded my new Rage before last season. I bent a lot of backers on the Rage as well as my wife bending backers on the Classic AGAIN. This year I am trying Polymer backers. I hope this cures the problem I am having I would hate to go back to steel that is heavy and rusts.

I sell & install 800-1000 studs and backers every year. I have tries other products from time to time, but allways come back to Woodys studs and backers.

My favorite backer is the Woodys lg. round Aluminum.

IMHO the polymer backers are junk, they flex too much and weaken the track belting.

Aluminum is the way to go. Did both my 05 Warriors and had 2000 miles of hard riding, (between 2 sleds) over bare tracks, rocks, and other crap. No problems with Woody's Aluminum backers.

When I buy the studs, will they come with the big nuts or do I have to order them extra?

Thanks Bob

Aluminum is lighter, strong enough to not make a difference, and won't rust.

Ditto.

I have never seen anyone use steel backers. Didnt know you could buy steel ones. Youd think they would rust.
