Well i did it went from 92 vmax4 to 08 apex ltx gt oh what a DIFFERNECE. So i will have some questions for you experts in the next few months. First one i have is on the front ohlins. What are some of you running for preload on springs or how tight are you setting the adjustment nuts. THANKS

the vmax 4 has the best sounding two stroke snowmobile ever. you cant help but pin the throttle just to hear that motor scream.

Yes the vmax4 does have a great sound but i don't miss the 2-stroke smell.I still have it i don't think i could let it go after having this long. Weight is 225 lbs. THANKS.

welcome to the new millenium!
follow the owners manual to set the initial suspension up, then you can tweak things to your liking as you get used to the sled. These are finely tuned suspensions and need to be delt with on a personal level, once you find the sweet spot on the limiter strap and the transfer rod you will LOVE it. go the faq'a and look up darting issues solved too ....makes it WAY more fun to drive once that is solved.
congrats!
p.s. I can't believe you kept a vmax 4 all those years...lol , not to mention the bad gas mileage they got.
welcome to TY

rx1fastervmax4,

I had a V-Max 4 and boy did I love it on long straight flat trails. That sled sure did sound sweet when you let it stretch its legs! I've owned ten Yamaha two smokes over the last 20 years and I can honestly say that I would never go back to any of them after I got my Apex.

There is definately a learning curve involved in both set-up and riding style. I hated my Apex at first after trading in my triple piped Viper. However once I got it set-up properly and learned how to ride it (which took a couple of weekend rides) I am now a 4 stroke convert for life.

I have the GYT front shocks on mine and I found that it handles best with the front springs set so that they are almost loose with the front end lifted in the air. This lowers the front end so that the A arms are more level which makes it much less tippy in the corners.

Feel free to ask anything on the forum as we are all here to help each other out. You will get the best results by asking your questions separately in posts that clearly reference the specific question in the title. Welcome to TY! Please add your location to your profile.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm getting ski lift in the corners I will be tyring the 13mm sway bar first. My wifes and daughter rx1's handle better. The only concern is the hand warmers there not any better than my vmax4 maybe worse.

Lift the skis off the ground and loosen the the coil springs until they rattle. Then tighten them up one or two turns, just make them even. Drop the compresion all the way, same for the rebound. Ride it, if you bottom turn up the compression. If it feels like it's pogoing back at you, turn up the rebound dampening. Also you will have to lean a little more than you did on the V as it's about 2 feet taller.
