I just finished getting my 2012 Vector ready for the season. Although I changed the oil and filter in the spring, I topped of the oil today and ran the sled for a few minutes. After I buttoned everything up, I see oil dripping from the belly ahead of the inspection plate ( toward the front of the sled) where the filter is. I pulled the plate back off and it is clean. I do not see any oil lines near the front of the engine or evidence of gasket leakage, but must admit, I can't see much the way that the engine is surrounded in there.
Any ideas on what may have happened?
Thanks

either a oil filter oring stuck to the motor or a cracked oil tank could be the culprit.

Remove the hood and side panels for a better look. If you still can't find the problem, remove the headlight/windshield assembly, then the airbox (1 clamp on each throttle body and front rubber strap). This will give you good visual access to the front of the engine. Removing the battery will give you more.Any ideas on what may have happened?
How much oil did you put in? The 3 cyl only requires 3 quarts total.
Check and make sure you tightened the oil tank drain plug.
Post up your findings.

I'd bet that you poured too much oil in and the breather puked oil into the airbox. The oil in the airbox then drained out the opening in the lower front of the airbox.

This... 100%. First step is pull the airbox lid & check for oil. Then, if it's clean, go onto other possibilities. But, I'm betting that's where it's coming from.I'd bet that you poured too much oil in and the breather puked oil into the airbox. The oil in the airbox then drained out the opening in the lower front of the airbox.
My '10 pukes some if I run it hard for extended periods of time due to excess crankcase pressure.

Gents,
Yep, oil in the air box. Engine looked good. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

- 2016 RS Vector XTX 1.25 Lug wifes..2013 RS Vector LTX.. 2003 600 VMax Past Machines 3-2007 Attaks 1-2010 Vector LTX.. sorry no Stinkdoos or poo's cats.
Yea...my 2010 Vector ltx does the same thing... also if it sucks powder as in following someone close I swear the breather system under the hood get's clogged with ice somehow and creates excess pressure or something ..thus oil in the filter... and will leak out a huge puddle after sitting... does it once in a while...did it yesterday on us..
