Bought a beater for a project any ideas on how to get that Allen Button Bolt out looks like previous owner stripped the Allen Slot .

My Apex drain was almost impossible to break loose also when it was new , poor design in my bloodshot eyes.

Thanks

Thanks Zeke

I would like to know what people use to take that out cause if you make one bad 1/4 turn it is stripped , is that pressure washer freezing up on the enigine block or the Button Bolt , even new sleds are bound up , weird.

Maybe a thin coat of anti seize would help , I use a 6mm socket allen key , 33* last night time to get ready.

Stripped

Dont think I could get enough pressure on the screwdriver to crack it loose , somebody on TY should machine a regular bolt and end this poor design issue.

I have also noticed that with some things I have had apart on my sled! My guess is they have a few Sumo wrestlers working in their sled plants :o|

I wouldn't use antisieze if I were you, just put some oil on the threads of the new bolt and don't tighten it up so much.

Good luck

I had the same problem. I was thinking of welding an allen wrench on to it but I eventually got a vice grip to grab on to the shoulder of the bolt long enough to get it out. It was not fun.

good luck

I can't remember if there is enough room or not, but sears has the bolt extractors that grab the outside of the head, round or hex. I had to use these on a crankshaft pulley on a V.W. Diesel engine when doing a timing belt change. Same type of deal, the bolt was locked on and the allen head striped, I thought it was over, no way this was going to end good. To my surprise, I tried the remover and it came of easy as pie. Just make sure to seat it well, I taped it with a hammer a few times to get the teeth started. Highly recommended, if you're like me, whenever the standard extractor need to come out, I get very nervous, basically expecting failure. Below is a link to the picture of the part, if it's not allowed and removed then just go to Sears website and punch in 52061 for the part number, it may not include the exact size you need but they make a few different kits.

Does anyone have the specs for the Button Bolt

I just looked at the service manual for my Apex and the recommended torque is 22 ft lbs...personally I think that's just way too much. I just torque it hand tight.

i always use an impact driver to remove it, just put the allen socket in the driver end and 1 tap with the hammer and shes out.

Good way to snap it right off imo, but hey, if it works for you then what do I know?
