Yesterday while riding about 50 mph or so the throttle hung, I was letting off but it just kept going.
Grabbed the brake quick and it just stayed there so I did it again in more of a panic mode (trails were bumpy and I was coming up on my buddy) to no avail so I just whacked the throttle a bunch of times and it freed up.
First time ever I've had a throttle hang open, hopefully the last.
Did notice the (!) yellow warning light start flashing but then it eventually went off. Was fine the rest of the day...
Maybe lube the cable? Any ideas why?

Did the TORS not limit the RPM's to bellow engagement speeds?
Do you have any mods like a bar riser that could have something to do with it?
Do not grease the cable, it could freeze possibly in the open position. The only greasing is to the end of the cable at the leaver.

What's TORS?
No bar riser & the cable got a little PB blaster wiped on it with a rag at the happy flipper.

Throttle OverRide System.
It is ment to keep that sort of thing of happening. If you notice on your happy flipper when you press it the throttle moves back and presses a button.
If that button is not pressed but the throttle cable is pulling or stuck open it should limit the RPM's bellow engagement.
Kind of like the throttle has 2 hinges.
It is kind of hard to explain but here is how to test it. Put you fingure behind the throttle to stop the throttle from pushing on that button. Then apply some pressure to the throttle and if you keep your fingure there to stop it from pressing the button it should keep the RPM's down and show code 84.
I can post a picture a bit later for you.

TORS is the safety feature though right? Will prevent over revving but not the sticking cable?
Maybe the cable is worn/frayed and needs to be replaced. Or something like ice or dirt got in there somewhere and prevented it from returning to stop.

Right, there is still the problem of it sticking.
Pull the cable out and inspect it for damage/dirt like he said.

Thanks Crewchief, that was what I was about to post.
TORS is not the problem but it should have taken over if you let go of the throttle.

I had mine stick for the first time a few weeks back. The culprit was moisture from steam coming into air box then at high speeds my cold air intake was supper cooling the carburators and sticking the flappers. If i continualy moved the throttle while riding it would not stick but if i held a throttle position it would. Dont know if u have cold air intake mod but it is what caused mine to do this.

No airbox mod or carbs, just self added cruise control....
Looked it over tonight and everything seems to be working ok, I'll get another ride in this weekend and keep an eye on it (or thumb)!
Thanks everyone for all the input.

Carbuerators on a Phazer?
I should have said throttle boddies... sorry to get your panties in a wad...

Tbyrd,
So there is a downside to the cold air intake? What type of airbox mod do you have - just pods or something more drastic? What temp were you riding at when the freezing happened?
thanks,

Porkchop, just make sure you test your TORS with the info Crewchief posted. It could save you if your throttle cable gets stuck again. It only takes a second to test it.
I once had my glove get stuck in between the throttle leaver where the cable is coming up to a stop, I probably would have run into the stopped sled just ahead of me but the TORS kicked in.
