Hi guys. I'm new here but I just snow checked a nytro rtx. I was just wondering about studs for this sled and what your thoughts are. I never had plastic backings for my studs so I was wondering how strong and durable are they? Do you think they are a better alternative to aluminum backers with a big nut? I am an aggressive rider and I am worried that the plastic backers are not strong enough. Just would like to hear some of your thoughts. Thanks

i had plastic backers once for the colour and they sceemed stroung enough i dont think anyone has had any problums with them they should befine
just my studding thoughts i would suggest 120 for that sled if you like a little controlled slide and dont care about the lake but if you want to get out of the whole nice on the lake and really want to bite in the turns (sometimes to much) then go with 144

Planning Proper Track Studding From Woody's
Trail Riding 80% Studs in Center Belt
20% Studs in Outside Belt

But, their drawings indicate for outside belts:
Trail Riding - using 96 studs - equals 24 studs or 25%
using 120 studs - equals 48 studs or 40%
using 144 studs - equals 48 studs or 33%
using 192 studs - equals 96 studs or 50%
using 240 studs - equals 144 studs or 60%

Aggressive Trail Riding 70% Studs in Center Belt
30% Studs in Outside Belt
Racing Oval/Formula III 55% Studs in Center Belt
45% Studs in Outside Belt

I have a buddy that has run the round plastic backers on 140 -150 hp sleds the last 4 years .1st sled had 5000 plus mls no failures, 06 rtx, 2000 mls this yr they look like new 162 in both trks. I run woodys angled backers in last 2 sleds and when i swap sleds I pull the studs no problem 400mls ago Istudded outside of my track , first time I;ve studded outside of a track. what I learned is traction is better ,you can't run angled backers on outside because the rear wheel would get ruined on the edge that sticks up . I pulled them out after starting to install them and put the round plastic backers on and they worked great till I traded for new sled and went to remove them, they do not come back apart easily and actually I ended up leaving them in the track an changed tracks out so I would still have my studded track. 192 studs :o|

thanks. I was thinking of 120 for mine and I'm glad to hear that the plastic backers hold up well because using the bigger nuts gets expensive and I am using the 600$ accessories for studs, jacket and helmet. Can't wait for winter to get out and ride. This is my first new sled ever and my first yamaha. Hopefully we have a good season up here in Maine. Thanks once again. :-o

YOur basic 96 in the stud paterns are the same. Try that first and see if you like it. If you need more you can always add. The more studs in the outside, the harder it is to turn the machine.
