Summary of what we think we know about 2011 Apex

If it was a 1052 in preproduction sled I rode in Hurly and makes peak power at 10,200 the preproduction sleds where clutched off. When you gave them a hand full it shifted at 9,000 and slowly pulled up to 10,000 at top end. So if it was clutched that far off and still pulled about 5 sled lengths on 2010 apex it should run very well with 10,200 shift! old saying is there is no replacement for displacement! Also it did get better fuel mileage then 2010 apex. It used 7 tenths of a gallon less in about 90 miles! There where many different riders all the time that could of affected numbers?

It's quite possible the clutched it that way on purpose. Give you a little taste of the new power it does have.

I'm only going to say one thing about this new sled here and only once. I already like it and want it.

Updated List

128" Track on the Shorty
EPS - Adds about 2-3 lbs and definitely worth it
Possibly II Gen R1 Motor, or 1052 Watercraft Based - we know it has 4 pipes
1052 is Dry Sump like the Apex
Peak power is at 10,200 RPM - same as 1052 - which has 160hp
I'd be very surprised if it isn't the 1052 - Behold the Genesis 160
Spindles 1-2" Shorter - Combined with Possibly Lower Motor Meaning COG could be 2-3" Lower - helps explain much better handling
New Seat that is 2" Higher - Looks a lot lighter as well
New Ski Design
Nice Size trunk - Holds a lot of stuff
Handle Bar Warmers that work
Webbed Deltabox seen - Delta Box III?
Lighter Spindles - Shorter and Relieved

Possibly 20 lbs lighter?

If they went to the effort of webbing the Deltabox, maybe they went to town on other stuff, getting rid of the steel?

I hope your right, Yamaha is heading in the right direction, like Mass. did last night and got SCOTT BROWN into the senate!!!!!! ;)!
Amen to that brother!!

The more and more I read from other riders, I'm thinking that the one the 1st group of Canadians road(me included) was a little light on clutching possibly making it not seem like it had that much more power. The trails were also somewhat soft and the sled had no studs.

I was seeing 10,700-10,800 on long pulls on the trails in the fields as it approached 100 mph. It kind of started at 9,700-9,800.

If power peak is 10,200 it may have been down 5-15 hp by 10,700-10,800

How much power does the Apex lose 500-600 rpm past peak.

I know it doesn't really matter as some will say I'm reading too much into it, but as I will probably not get another chance to ride one(or one with studs) before I have to make a buying decision I want to get it sorted in my head.

I bought my 06 ER in March of 06. I have done just about all the needed aftermarket changes to the rear skid. Now I am working on steering components and A arm bushings. The hand warmers they seemed to have fixed, I on the other hand purchased the rockmiesters fix. The skis also seem to be fixed, time and rides will tell. I will state that coming from twin cyl. two smoke reliability, oxymoron if ever one was uttered, I am completely happy with that aspect. I will never buy the first year of an initial offering from any company again. Thanx to all TY members in the pursuit of making our current Apexes the sleds that they are, I would not be happy if I started on this path again.
