Has anyone used a super heated plug in magnet overnight on their sled? For anyone that doesnt know its just a magnet with 200w of heat that plugs in....what Im thinking of doing is sticking it on the oil tank on the right side of the sled overnight to keep the oil warm for start up the next morning. How much oil is in the side resivoir again? I think about a litre so with the three litres or so it takes I wonder if this is a good idea or not because 2 litres wont be heated due to it being so far down in the pan. Any comments?
I am using a 250watt silicone pad from bumper to bumper.

The idea behind these heaters is to warm the oil in the oil pan to make it easier to circulate when cranking. Even though our oil pan is seperate from the block, the premise should still work but then will the oil just go back to syrup when it hits the stone cold block? I would combine this with a good synthetic oil. Either way, it can't hurt.

um isnt the oil res aluminum? i believe its 2 qts in the res and 1 in the case. a complete rebuild calls for 4 qts. oil change with filter is 3.2qts. what about a inline coolant heater? had one that came in a bronco i bought once. i believe it spliced into the heater core line. worked pretty good.

The magnet sticks on the res, ive tried it. If theres two quarts in the res it might not be so bad heating it then. I know it will start stone cold but im thinking it will help the machine start alot better and get more life out of my battery

I can tell you this the coolant heater doesn't work.....my dad has it and I don't. We went out one morning it was -35c, mine started and his didn't. Coolant hoses felt warm and the hole deal. So what happens in this case, the cpu thinks the sled is already at operating temp and doesn't give it enough fuel. When it does start when he has it pluged in the light doesn't even come on. As far as battery life, my sled is a 07 and still has the stock battery.....what more does a guy or gal want.

i was against the coolant heater from the start, having warmer oil than stone cold oil is the benefit
