Vector,Apex & Viper serve different market segments of riders not the same so I don't see the choice concern...at least for me the Apex /Vector ergos are better for me than Viper.

Agreed, but the Apex is old. I understand it has had lots of refinements. That was my second choice if I didn't get a viper. Yamaha's biggest failing is not figuring out how to make a light weight, high powered, good ergonomic, good geometry sled. Yamaha needs too deploy a new chassis that learns a thing or two from the viper. I only hope they improve the quality over the viper as I'm not completely satisfied.

Fit and finish on Apex is bar none. But, try lifting the front end without getting a hernia

The only thing Yamaha needs to do to the Apex is beef up the rear grab bar for pulling all the Artic Cat, Polaris and Ski-Doo sleds home... As far as them being to heavy, a wise man once said "I don't carry my sled, I ride it"
Change the chassis and keep the engine . It's just fine imo. Don't care how heavy they are either . Looks how quick ,fast and powerful a Diesel pickup is . There heavy .Apex engine in a slightly wider viper chassis can be done .
Who knows ..

weight should be an issue in the mountains but on the trails, not so much. Love my Apex and i didn't think i would after coming from my SRX. i took a Viper for a demo last year, didn't impress me one bit. I don't see myself buying a Viper unless they up the horse power and make it sound better, ride was OK. .

I say leave something a loan if it works. Every thing gets changed to much these days because its mostly marketing CRAP!

Tell that to someone with a bad back. That's what apex riders tell themselves to feal better.

Honestly, weight doesn't matter much if all you do is ride a trail. Get off trail or get stuck and that Apex's weight becomes a nightmare. I ride with Apexes and throwing them around a trailer or out of the ditch really sucks! They don't break deep fresh snow well. They can be modified to tolerate deep snow, but its weight means it doesn't excel.
Yamaha sales have been dropping for years. Anyone wonder why? Reason is Yamaha keeps failing to produce a light weight, good handling rider forward chassis. This makes up a large segment of the population. This is the reason the viper has been so wildly successful
The best parts of the Apex is the quality and engine. Keep that and learn from the viper.
