I was in la la land again today thinking about a 2 stroke sheap thrill project I'm toying with where I'm thinking of building a lightweight ditch banger extreme on the cheap just to play around here the few times it snows. So I was thinking tall bars and then thinking that the seats are so low, boss seats costing too much what else could I do, so i though raise the seat with a 3-4" spacer, some how trim it out so it looks stock or close to it. Then I thought what if I made a suspension bracket that bolts to the tunnel then the seat bolts to it or better yet use a real thin lightweight custom seat I make from something else that would basically be a carpeted board/limited foam made out of thin plastic that weighs almost nothing. Then mount that to this suspension bracket that uses a fox float shock from a mountain bike and viola a extra 3" of travel under the caboose where it counts and height adjustable.

I like the idea and I can relate to having idea after idea pop up, even when out on the trail sometimes.
How about this one: imaging ripping through tight twisties on your favorite Yami, you're making a hard right hand turn (normally you have to place your index finger (at least me anyway) under the kill switch to keep your wrist from breaking and your elbow from jabbing yhour side just to keep the throttle open and maining a positive grip) and the right half of the handle bar actually moves forward enough while turning so you don't break your wrist or jam your elbow in you side. You can actually get in an agressive lean. You'd have total control because you're hands will be firmly gripped to the grips. Same thing on a left turn. Can you imagine what I'm talking about? I don't know if it would take hydrollics, or electronics or both our what. But I can see it work in my mind.

There was an aftermarket company that tried to market something like this a few years ago. I remember visiting their web site after reading about their "suspension seats" in either a magazine or on another site. Their idea was a pivot point at the front of the seat with a rear shock and spring in the back controlling the seat suspension, sorta like the airbag suspended cabs on big trucks. Not a bad idea by any means. Sometimes the seat is the reason why one sleds seems to ride much better than another.

With the new Boivin ZX2 skid and the Apex seat, do you think you will find much benefit from your suspend-o-matic seat? Seems like the amount of foam you would have to remove to make it work would negate the effects of the seat shock.

The suspension seat idea has crossed my mind also... I say go for it. Perhaps look at the mechanisms that suspension seats in trucks use? Snag a YZF seat or something to mount on top.
3 or 4" of foam vs an air shock... shouldn't be any competition.

Metallicat - this wouldnt be for my RX1 that thing is waaaay to nice to hack up like this, it would be for my beater project sled that I want on the cheap. Would like to build something that starts runs, takes a licking and keeps on ticking to bang around the ditches and keep my baby RX stored near a nice trail up north from me.

ive seen one that uses a dirtbike seat on a frame that was one a shock and also on a pivot side to side that had a dampener. alowed u to lean into the corners and still be on the seat.
